I have a Tenyo Token dated 1975. On the front is the Tenyo rabbit and a coat of arms on the back. It is a little larger than an american half. It looks to be made of silver but not sure of that. Anyone know why these were produced? Were they possibly used in an effect?
Thanks, John |

Weren't they used in Space Walking Coin? I have seen one for sale a few years ago and it included the Tenyo Tokens.

Hi Stereo, no not Astro coin as it is a silver coin which is a little larger than a half dollar. It looks to me like it might be real silver. David, I originally thought Space Walking coins but a few have mentioned that effect did not come with coins. Mine was mint when I bought it and did not include coins. The words are english so would not think it was used in a Japanese version. Looks more like something that would have been distributed at a special event, but I am only guessing.
Will try sending a photo Stereo. John |

I just took the token out of the sealed protective holder it came in (the type coin collectors use). It is a little too large for the "catcher" unit in Space Coins. So it was not meant for that. As I handle it more it is too light to be silver (darn). Has a heavy knurled edge so may have been a Tenyo palming coin.

This is all very interesting to me. I bought a Space Walking Coins some time ago. It was supposed to be mint but obviously was not (scratches/scruff marks). The end of the catcher unit as John mentions actually snapped off with a couple practice moves. WAS this due to old age...a reglued unit or possibly U.S. half dollars are in fact too heavy for this?? Even before this thread, someone recently mentioned this idea that Space Walking Coins originally might have come with lighter Tenyo coins, which would make sense when you think about it.
So has anyone bought a mint Space Walking Coins that did in fact come with Tenyo/ lighter coins? |

Hi towledge, so far everyone that has commented that owns it now and in the past has indicated it did not come with coins. There are definitely some quality issues with the "catcher" unit and in most cases the tape hinge lets go after time. I agree I would not want to use heavy coins in the unit.

Being it was made in Japan I would bet it is made of the same composit metal as Japanese currency is.
The 50 Yen, 100 Yen, and 500 Yen all look like silver but are made of what they call Cupronickel 75% Copper 25% Nickel. It is light yet resembles silver. Richard

OK thanks John.
So maybe the question for anyone in U.S. with regards to Space Walking Coins is what coins of any type/ country would be similar size to US Halves but lighter. Would anyone know? Bill |

The original version of the Coin Fan came with metal Tenyo Tokens, not the plastic coin now used.

Hi Richard... I had heard that, however this particular token is too large for the Coin Fan.
