I now use this since I heard it on "The Magic Word" podcast by Scott Wells.
"My wife goes through my wallet when she goes shopping and takes all my big bills but leaves the singles alone. Being a magician I change all my big bills into singles. " Remove from wallet and show singles "She sees the one dollar bills and leaves them alone. But when I need money, I change them into 20s." Change to 20s. Wait for reaction. "When I'm done shopping, I change them back into one dollar bills before I put them back into my wallet." Switch back into one dollar bills and put into wallet. Wait for thunderous applause.

Use 1 million or (better) a 1 Billion $ bill, and borrow a bill denomination that is higher than the cost (to you) of the one M(B)illion dollar bill. People will virtually never ask to get their 10$ bill back (either because they like the 1 billion $ bill or because they don't want to look cheap in front of the rest of the audience)...
Thus you don't change it back and instead of a cost, the routine offers an additional profit every time it is performed. This being said a justification for changing the bill back is to start the effect as a "mass hypnotism" presentation.... I don't like it but it's consistent

On Nick Einhorn's bill to marker, he borrows a larger denomination bill, has it signed and says he can make the signature disappear. It technically does disappear, but only because the 50 pound note has turned into a 5 pound note. Seems perfectly reasonable to change the bill again back into the original and the spectator is all for it. For Nick, this also is the set up to bill to marker.
That makes sense to me.

It all depends on the presentation for example I do a lottery ticket to £10 and I finish it with the bill but when I do extreme burn I go from magazine clippings to bills back to magazine clippings because in the presentation it makes sense.

If a magician does a bill switch and does not change it back, then, when the guy ask for his money, do you just given him your $100. I don't think so, and if you pull his dollar or five out of your pocket, then you have an upset spectator. I think, if you combine the switch with a bill to any location, you might take the heat off a little.
So you have a choice to make, either give the guy his magically change bill, $100, or change it back without him having to ask for it. |
