Does anyone have any practice tips for pulling this off reliably (without counting out 26 cards!)?

I'm assuming this is *for performing the faro? Practice will get you there. Do it enough times and faro, and you'll know if you're right or not.

One way to practice is to split the deck in to half red/half black, that way when you cut it, you'll instantly know whether or not you hit the center without having to count the cards each time.
It will take a good bit of practice though. |

Thanks for all the replies so far. Yes it's for a trick that requires two perfect "in" faros. I can interlace fairly well but cutting an exact half-deck is something else again.
I like the idea of splitting reds and blacks for practice purposes. Thanks for that Mario. |

Yeah, practice it 20 times today, 20 times tomorrow, 20 times the day after that... record how well you do every day so you can see progress! Practicing a few minutes each day makes a big difference!

Practice is the only way to get there. There are no tricks or secrets. One thing I did was have the deck in NDO and since 8 faros will bring you back to that order it was easy to learn the center card for each split. Just keep at it, that is the main thing.

I agree with the above posters. Practice a bit each day and you will be able to do it!

As with anything in magic, Practice is what makes perfect. After a while you will be able to "feel" that you have it perfect.

This is just to update my thanks to all who replied. You have all pretty much confirmed what I assumed to be the case (i.e. there are no short-cuts) but I've picked up two good tips I think; (1) split the deck into red/black to aid practice and (2) new deck order will be restored after 8 faros. (I'd read this on this forum somewhere before but I had forgotten it.
Thanks again to all. |

Alex Elmsley had a lot of work on the faro, including ways of recovering from a faro that is off by one card in either direction without unweaving and trying again. You will find that with enough practice when you're off, it will usually be by one card, and having a way to proceed with the bridge and shuffle, and still accomplish the required perfect faro, will look more fluid and increase your confidence. To paraphrase JFK concerning a more difficult challenge, "We do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard...". The topic might be different but the principle is the same.
If it was easy to do everyone would be doing it. Best of luck to you. |
