There comes a point where common sense should rule, but unfortunately there is so little of it to go around anymore.
At what point can we expect adults to be adults and take responsibility for their own actions? So Howie comes up with an innovative way to distribute his info. He is handing this info to adults, because they are the ones with the money to hire him. Why is it his responsibility to monitor what the adult does with it from there? Perhaps the Liquor and Beer and Wine companies should quit distributing their alcoholic beverages to adults because there is always the danger that some adult might give some to kids. ~Nanci |

Thanks for the post Nanci,
I didn’t think of the point you made about a child molester taking the medicine bottle I hand out and utilize it at some future date as a means to lure unsuspecting children. If this is truly the point being made by some here, it is a ridiculous reason to cease distributing it; I believe even the most deranged child molester has the resources of go into a store and purchasing candy; if the bottle is a danger to children from child molesters, all toy stores should close to prevent a child molester the ability to gain access to a toy to entice a child into a car I can’t believe anyone here would even think of this; I even received a few comments about my bus being inappropriate; if I listened to some of you guys here I would be doing nothing for marketing and I would be spending my time in front of my computer posting to other members about how badly they are in promoting themselves Some of the negative comments I receive about my advertising here and other threads are from the same members that post in the Sales And Trade forums post like “ I would buy this if I had the money”, or posts like, “can you hold it until my next paycheck” they are the experts that tell me my advertising is ineffective, or dangerous. I have handed the bottle to Attorneys, MD’s Physiologists, Peace officers and I have never received a comment about the bottle being inappropriate. When I originally posted the photo, it was to share a positive and different type of handout that has been very successful for me; it was posted with the intention of stirring the creative juices of magicians to develop ideas that would be just as effective. I was under the impression that the Café was magicians helping other magicians. |

Nanci did say it well, and I agree Howie, it is a ridiculous reason to stop giving it out.
Anybody working with kids can be accused of doing it for the wrong reasons. Anybody not working with kids can also be accused of 'not' doing it for the wrong reasons. You can't worry about those who over think every little thing. Life goes on. Medicine bottle containers have been used in advertising promotions with success for many years. Actually, Howie you not the first in magic to use the idea. I can remember reading about the idea in a very old magic book. And I believe it was 'Promotion In Motion.' While not really a business card, it is a great way to promote your business. Most normal business cards end up in a desk drawer, until the desk gets cleaned out, and then its dumped in the trash. I like the added novelty items because they are so easily remembered. Way back when I was in sales, one of my best handouts was a two dollar bill. People kept it and they remembered where they got it. And in place of a business card, using my rubber stamp, I would just stamp my name on their phone book that was lying on the desk. Front page phone book advertising for free. Nobody uses phone books today, but novelty still sells. If you want to be noticed you have to walk away from the crowd. I still say, well done Howie. Tom

I have to add this. And you can take it anyway you want.
Howie, You are delusional! You hand out a pill bottle with candy in it that says in more places than one- "Kids magic" , then go on to try and defend this with the "disclaimer" . Why even go there? This is creepy Do you hand these out from your "magicbus"? You sir, are definently Creepy. Sometimes it is about perception not intent! Just my .02 |

You don’t have a website posted here for me to see what type of advertising you prefer, so I can’t comment on the differences. You may find it creepy, but the clients that have hired me because they remembered me by receiving the bottle and want to see more of my creative ideas in my show are my target market, not other magicians. I added the post to this thread to reply to bluemagic the OP on what I think a good business card is; in addition to energizing other magicians to create their own advertising. All I can say is that I hope that whatever you’re using for your advertising, it is working for you. The medicine bottle has worked wonders for me handing it out to people in the San Francisco area. If this has turned you off and you create something entirely different that in your own mind that is heads and shoulders above my idea, then my goal has been reached; some action is better than no action so can we see what you come up with that is imaginative. |

Tom;
You mean to tell me that I did not invent the pill bottle thingy!!!! I think every copy of 'Promotion In Motion.' Should be rounded up and burned, and the paragraph in your post saying I did not invent the idea should be deleted by the Café management. I also think the two dollar bill card was a great idea along with the rubber stamp; I used to have a stamp that said “TO THE ONLY WOMAN I EVER LOVED” and stamped it on everything; restaurant checks envelopes and the bank hated it when I handed it to the female tellers and it was stamped on checks and deposit slips. |

More bad news Howie. You didn't invent the M&M's either. LOL
M&M's have been used to lure customers for years. Nowadays you can even have the M&M's personalized. The ole fashion pint fruit jars also make good containers for the candies. Add a label or tag and you have a great gift. Tom PS. And just for the record, if you weren't using M&M's in the bottle, I too would be against the idea. But it is the most recognized candy in the world. Not to mention, "they melt in your mouth, not in your hand."

Tom;
I did invent the wording on the body of the label Read label directions carefully; “Bad children’s birthday party planning will cause upset stomach and may result in distress and depression” Tom, would you consider this diagnosing without a license? Because if you do, I can have a licenses printed up by tomorrow morning. |

Ok, I will give you credit for the label. I guess we need to apologize to bluemagic for getting his topic a little off the business card. My tip is this: Choose something YOU like and will feel good about using. It will only work if YOU are comfortable with it. Use it, Use it, Use it. There's no point in making beautiful business cards only to keep them at home, get them out there. Tom

Bluemagic;
I apologize for hijacking the thread and discussing the finer points of how I invented pill bottle advertising and more importantly if M&M’s will in fact melt in your hands, or in your mouth. I thank you for your patients and now let’s get back to the better business card thread |
