While I have gotten something out of most every lecture I've ever seen.... I must admit I really received more than my moneys worth from the online Joshua Jay lecture at Penguin Monday night..... He delivered a bunch of usable material,...some of which, if I recall correctly, was shown for the first time! In addition to all of the material Joshua presented & taught, he also encouraged us to rediscover some of the wonderful Magic Books in our libraries.... I am always on the lookout for "something new" it seems and I for one have far too long neglected the amazing material on my own bookshelf. It's been great fun going through some of it.....
Hats off to Penguin Magic for their online lecture series. Since having moved from a Major Metropolitan area several years back I haven't seen many lectures. It's great to now be able to have a regular series of them. I hope they continue..... Thanks to all of the great Magicians who have participated so far.... It's much appreciated. Best, Bk |

I agree -- this was a great lecture. It was my first Penguin lecture, and I'm looking forward to more. What was especially nice was the relaxed, intimate vibe. I haven't been to a ton of live lectures, but have been to a few, and they've all been pretty briskly paced, moving from trick to trick with minimal questions. This one stopped at times for conversation on presentation, creating tricks, Josh's live show and his accident. Some of the questions coming in from Twitter were basic ones of the kind you might be embarrassed to ask in a room full of people -- but which wound producing good, thoughtful responses from Josh. Hope this venture works out for Penguin so there will be more.

I love the lecture! Joshua Jay discussed a lot of magic, theory, subtleties and presentation. He also goes into concepts of magical effects, which is something you'll never get in any downloads or any DVD out there. Techniques like how do you recover from blunders like making a mistake on card forces etc.
He discussed about effects that has never been released. He shows his recent hits from Vanishing Inc: Timeless and Prism (in which you don't need to buy the product to perform it) updates from his famous improptu effect (Cornered), some effects from his previous products and tons more. Best download I've got for a long time! |
