Hello everyone
I am 12 years old and mostly perform magic at school and to family. I have been showing my class some magic tricks in the morning and it is becoming a bit of "a thing" I started off with simple card tricks, then I did a few things with a st****er deck, then an invisible deck, then I did sponge balls... And recently I have been doing simple impromptu tricks using school props Eg. Pencil dissapears (behind ear), torn and restored paper And my personal favourite: the colouring pencil trick. Its where you close your eyes then have someone choose a pencil (all different colours) , you retake the pencil and put them all behind your back, its at this point the magic happens, you get the tip of the pencil and s***pe it against the place where a TT would be (trying to make is coded). You can them drop all the pencils to the floor, looking at you TT place, and know the colour. 12 year olds seem to appreciate mentalism Does anyone else know any impromptu magic tricks using everyday school objects?????? Thankyou, Jake |

Recapped- Gregory Wilson is an excellent place to start (I highly recommend buying the On The Spot set), only uses a pen (though it's not mentalism).

I have thought about getting greg's Pointless, however I believ it is a bit over priced.
I would definatley get it if it was sold just with the gimmick for half the price |

Pointless is a good trick, but for your average every day school performance you probably won't want to carry around a gimmick. This is why so much of Wilson's On the Spot material is so fantastic, the majority of it can be done with borrowed objects. He also talks a bit about watch steals and the basics of pickpocketing, which can be very effective in an impromptu scenario (though probably not the most practical/acceptable at school).

I would do some candy magic (like tic tacs) as it is a pretty common object. Check out ScreamFreakRewind on Youtube.

Color changing deck. I recommended this trick for a beginner a couple days ago. It is pretty easy and resets in about 2 seconds. Also A Word In A Million is a great trick. It drove me crazy until I learned how to do it. Those two will get you a reputation.

This is a relatively old thread. The "OP" is now at least 14!
When I was 13, almost 14,in October, 1945, I had a 35 minute show. I booked it at the local Junior High School. The school charged ten cents admission! (In 1945, you could get a hamburger for $.10!!! About 500 kids attended. I had made a percentage "deal" with the school, and I made $26.00! (Equivalent to about $300.00, today!) My buddies were bagging groceries at the super market for $.50 per hour! Times have changed. I don't think the school could or would let a young guy,13 years old, do what I did, today. But,today, there are many kinds of parties for kids. You need to be an entrepreneur, and a good performer, Hey! you could help pay for your college tuition! BTW, for the young fellows...Karl Fulves has written and published several different paper back books (Dover Publications) titled: "Self Working Table Magic", "Self Working Handkerchief Tricks", Self Workking Rope Tricks", etc. When first published, about 33 years ago, they were priced at $2.50 in U.S.A. I think that now they are in the $6 or $7 range. --and well worth it. They all use "props" found around the house.
