Just got scheduled to do walk around magic at a riding stable's summer party in Northern Virginia next month. Already have a set list, but if anyone has any suggestions concerning walk around effects with an equestrian theme, I'd love to hear them. The attendees will include adults, teenagers and small children (mostly female, I expect). Thanks.

I am a horseperson and started to map ot an equine illusion show sometime ago which I never developed. You can do a Crop (cane) to Silks, An appearing Crop, Dove Pan to make horse feed appear, or perhaps Linking Rings saying their harness rings. While fire isn't the greatest thing to use in a barn, I gave many equine lectures starting with a fire wallet and noting that had been the impact of horses in my life .. it always went over well. Rope routines could work well as might anything using a towel (call it a rub rag.) You could also do hat routines using a hunt cap, dressage top hat, or cowboy hat depending on the type of barn. Anyway, those are a few things off the cuff which might stimulate some additional ideas.

Have fun!
Dan.

A horse trick in Virginia? Nah, heard about something involving a donkey in Tijuana, though.

Back when I was doing nightclub magic (before mentalism), the audience would chant "That's Just Wrong!" as the magic words Smile Now you understand why, Mark!

Some Jardine Ellis rings look like harness rings. There are a number of great routines for them.

How cool is that? As an avid rider and horse owner, I'm almost jealous.

I haven't given it much thought, but I'll ponder it and get back to you.

Congratulations!

Some great ideas there, guys - thanks! Hadn't even thought about rings or ropes for some reason. They'd fit into the stable environment perfectly. Think I'll try putting a piece of black leather on my appearing wand, too, for that appearing crop idea. I like that horse/frog illusion, too, BTTB. Gonna print out a pile of those to give away.

Just ordered that horseshoe puzzle you linked to, BTTB. Looks like a fun prop to keep dangling from the belt - shiny and jangly - or to hand to a spec in a group as an "assignment" while working with another volunteer. Given how inexpensive it is, I might just leave it with the stable in case they want to have it on the magazine table in the main office.

Shouldn't this thread be in 'Stable' hoppers & party strollers?

I do think that the rope ideas are good thoughts.

Horseshoe nails. Hmmm. That gives me a presentational idea to use with QB2 and the Loki lighter. Thanks, Bob.

PS - Any video links of your wife's act with the unicorns?

The current issue of Magic Magazine has four effects from the Definitive Sankey, including an imaginative bill switch that begins with the presentational hook, "what's the difference between a puzzle and magic?" Could work very well in conjunction with the horseshoe puzzle that BTTB recommended.
