And so I finally am getting this show ready for the road, and a few more things were needed. Back to Tarbell, looking for ideas. In vol. 3 / page 340 there is the "Tarbell Clean Cut color change" - I made up the gaff, and it works swell, except --
When doing the transfer, it seems there isn't a whole lot of room left at the "bottom" of your hand to make the "change" - A local magician told me to use 12 silks, so I am. I also have used 9 silks, which seems to work out - but 12's cover the back house workings of the gaff better. AM I missing something in Tarbell, or is this just another thing I need to work out? // WHEN you hold the gaff in your hand, it just about comes to the top of the thumb - finger "hole", and it leaves not a whole lot of room to push the change thru. It (the load) seems to squirm around in the back of the palm. Suggestions? -- Perhaps make the gaff smaller and only use 9 silks? Change the angle of the gaff? Inquiring minds need an answer. -- Mitch --
It is easier to try than to prove it can't be done.

Did you read page 744, paragraph 4, sentence starting with "As you ..." I believe that is clearly stated.
Push the silk into the tube, pushing out the previously loaded silk. I have no idea how big your hands are (I wear size 10 gloves), 2 inches from the top of my fist, I still have 1-1/2 inches left to the bottom of my palm. So, if you have small hands, you may have to remake the gimmick with a wider tube and shorter length. I really don't understand when you say, "squirm around at the back of the palm." The tube is against the palm, the hand is in a fist, the tub is perpendicular to the floor. There is no back of the palm, situation. Yes, the tube should be at the top of the fist with the palm and index finger around it and the thumb over the index finger. This is a stand up trick, it is not for close-up because of the angles needed. If you worry about the tube being seen, just tilt the top of the fist toward you a little. You should be up on a platform or the audience should be seated well below the level of the top of your fist. Just trying to cover all bases with the added information. Hope this helps. |
