Ive been working the floating rose routine into my show on a ship I'm working. Having oroblems with the lighing. Im surrounded 360 and have front and side lighting. If I bring a spectator onstage they can see it clear as day. Scared people behind will too. Any suggestions?

There are several things to look at that may help solve your problem. First use mainly red or pink light. No blues. Depending on the spotlight operator, he can keep a tight spot on your face. Second, look at the floor. The floor might be reflecting up bounced light. Another option, is use distracting sparkle on your wardrobe. There are a lot of ways to go with this. All you can use different T**** to make it work. Kevin James is the expert on this. Have you read his materials on this?
To be honest, If it is that much of a hassle to properly light so it is not exposed, you probably should not be doing it. Richard

As long as you have light sources on the left and right you should be good from the audience side of the effect. Why would you be surrounded on a ship, most have a stage against a wall or curtain. Since when did they go to the dinner theater set up. Anyway, the ones behind you are blocked by your body, so don't worry about them.
Just don't get to dizzy from all the spinning, and fall off the stage. But I agree with Richard, if you don't have all the knowledge and lighting to work with this material, then leave it out. There are several sources of IT theory on the market. Also, you did not mention how you knew the spectator see it, did they comment. Part of the theory is if you can see it, they cannot. If it is possible for you do some experimenting while the room is empty, then I suggest you book some rehearsal time, and have a friend help you solve the issues. |

Short of complete angle and lighting checking, this is the easiest way to tell if your IT work will... well... work. Listen to Bill, he knows what he's on about.

Yep! I agree!
One thing I have learned, is NEVER do an I.T. effect surrounded! I have never had 360 degree lighting that worked. SOMEONE will see it! Astrosphere is one I made that mistake with. I was outdoors at a club on the beach, and it was night, and the lights were all around. I thought I had the best place out of direct light, but I was wrong! The Floating Rose surrounded? I wouldn't... Doug |

You may try different IT. I find that there is quite a variation depending on the light.
