Roaches.
How nice. Once in a home, almost impossible to get rid of. Your hosts will just LOVE you for bringing one into their home. Penn & Teller did that to Johnny Carson - once. They were never even allowed in the building again, from all reports. Use a different kind of bug. Please. Otherwise, some homeowner or landlord will probably clean your clock. With a sledge hammer. It's not your regular everyday roach, but rather a big tropical bug that looks rather roach-like.
I have been assured that it is harmless and won't infest anyones homes. Geeze, I'm not as stupid as David Blaine looks you know. Arrrgggghhh. What have I done? My original post has gone. Good Lord, if I every get used to using i)a computer ii)the internet then look out World. I'll try and re-type my original topic. Sorry all. As everyone on this particular board is no doubt acutely aware, we are fast approaching Halloween, and all the fun that entails. I expect many of us have plans for Halloween night, be they professional engagements or otherwise, and we are no doubt planning numerous effects for the occasion. Being as I spend the rest of the year trying to present subtly spooky and unsettling effects, I thought I would treat my friends to a simple card trick this Halloween, and I got the chance perform it properly for the first time last night by way of a test run before I inflict it upon my nearest and dearest. I thought somebody on here might like to try something similar so... The effect goes like this. It begins, as these things so often do with the invitation to pick a card, a choice that is not so free as the participant would believe. Need I say explicitly that you should insert your favourite card force here? The card (in my case the 7 of hearts) is returned to the pack without the performer seeing its face, and with the spectators promise to remember which card it was. The pack is placed to one side. With, perhaps, reference to his psychic powers, or his ability mentally to influence other peoples choices, the performer reaches into his shirt pocket and removes a single card (in my case the ace of clubs) Clearly this is the wrong card, and the spectator is quick to denounce it as such. This is where things start to get more interesting. Holding the card in one hand, as the performer curls their fingers around, the Ace of clubs is transformed into a matchbox (the spectators are mildly impressed). With everyone leaning in toward the matchbox, the performer pushes the draw open. Mildly impressed changes to vaguely disgusted as an enormous cockroach is coaxed out of the box, and is seen to have the figure 7 and a small heart painted on its back. ***EDIT*** As Lee Darrow quite rightly points out, and as common sense strongly suggests, an actual cockroach is NOT the thing to use here, and would cause serious problems for everyone. Besides, they stink. ***EDIT*** So that’s my, Card-to-matchbox-transformation cockroach-production card-prediction effect. OK so it's simple to perform and it definitely gets a reaction, even the transforming card was easy to design and build. Is it strictly bizarre? I don't know, but it did get a good response from the girls I showed it to, and it's the only 'card trick' I will do (in fact it's the first time for ages I have used playing cards for anything other than playing cards) and it seems somehow appropriate for Halloween. Well I doubt many will even read all the way through this, but if you did and you have any questions feel free to post them for me. Thank you for reading. Rich.
That's the whole problem with science. You've got a bunch of empiricists trying to describe things of unimaginable wonder. - Calvin (& Hobbes)

Thanks, Rich, for the clairifcation.
Sounds like a pretty good routine - and one that will undoubtedly endear you to the ladies. I've gotta say, I haven't seen a babe-magnet trick like this since Jim Pace's "The Web!" I remember Cindy Crawford on her short-lived talk show going through the backdrop when the critter made its appearance attached to her hand! Gotta LOVE bizarre magick! Lee Darrow, C.Ht.

I'd go with the simple yet amazing haunted deck or card. Not a big routine but a killer one.
