Just thought I'd give a shout out to this fantastic book which I read whilst on holiday.

Powers has written some quite superb fantasy novels over the years but I'd never caught up with this one.

Its about a character who has found a way , through a particular game of cards, to win the bodies of others to enable him to effectively live forever and about one gamblers attempt to win back his body.

The book does so much to evoke a kind of magic around playing cards and around poker and the Tarot that you just want to pick up a pack of cards every five minutes and deal a hand.

One of the best books I've read for some time and you'll never look at a deck of cards in the same way again.
