Hello !
I'd like to use a dove pan for my birthday party show. In an early part of the show, I have feathers appear from a change bag, and I'd like the whole bird to appear from a dove pan in the end (a puppet, about 30/40 cm, it can be "coiled"). As it's the very end of the show, it could also be nice to have a birthday cake appear too, so it's a transition to end the show and tell the kids it's time to go and eat the cake. In this case it would be a double load pan, otherwise I give up the cake idea and take a single load pan. So do you think a double load pan could do that or is it too much ? I've never handled one, so I don't know how it looks like inside. Thanks. |

Dunno about dove pans, but I was wondering about the feathers coming out of a change bag and put in the dove pan to have a live bird appear (I suppose)...
I'm not into stage magic (I do cards mostly) but is it good routining? Doesn't seem consistent to use a different 'container'. Just a thought. I'm curious to know other people's opinions. I'm afraid I'm becoming a bit of a bl***y stickler about putting a good routine together. Thanks mlippo |

Thanks for your help and advice, Mlippo !
Indeed if I was trying to make the bird appear as a 'normal' magic trick, that would be awkward to use different containers. And I love your idea of changing feathers into a bird (I'll use that one for a version when my magic works - but in this story my magic 'misworks' as a clown) That would be the story : My bird has disappeared and no matter how we try, we don't seem to manage to have it appear (only feathers or other unwanted animals). So just when I'm about to give up and decide to make the birthday cake appear, I would like the bird to finally appear instead (the first time) and then the second time, the cake. Does that make sense ? |

In a double load pan, the 2nd load can hold about the same as the first load. You will have to move the lid out of sight to prepare the 2nd load. I had bought a double load pan a few years ago but the rivets came out as soon as I started to practice with it (One of them was laying inside the pan when it arrived) so I've never actually used it in a show. I turned mine into an expensive Flash Paper container

Thanks for the info. Hum...hope they are not all as fragile as your :-/.
So I guess in a double load pan, each load is half as big as in a single load pan. So I'm not sure if my bird can fit in. The best thing would probably be to see one for real. |
