This uses the the Lubor lense from Paul Harris' Reality Twister.
RT Routine- I look for a couple (married is best but you can adapt). I remark that my wife spends money like crazy but I was able to cure her of that. I ask which of the two seems to have a whole in their pocket (I know some may think this money issue with couples can be treading dangerous water, but I'm upbeat and they know from my character I'm just there to entertain them). Usually, it's the woman and in that case I tell them I'm going to try a little test and perhaps I can cure her as well. I ask the gentleman if I could borrow some change and a $100 dollar bill. If he balks I say isn't it worth $100 dollars for me to cure your wife of this dreadful disease? O.K. how bout a dollar then...Hahaha. So I remove my magnifying glass (Lubor Lense) and hold it in the "illusion" position as I carefully toss a few coins (pennies work best) in her hand. "Just as I thought, it's not her fault sir, she was born with holes in her hand. It's very fortunate I was here tonight because I am the only one I know of that has been able to cure this unfortunate malady and I'll do it all for you for the mere cost of (in my most disappointed fashion) one dollar... I gently set the dollar over the lense, do some magical gestures in which time the lense is transposed to the "revelation" position and I announce she is "cured"! I then offer the bill back to the patron. It's a fun routine in the right setting. I usually do it while strolling or in more informal settings. Just use your best judgment. All I can say is that I've never had an effect inspire me as much as the Reality Twister, not because the effect was so good, but more because the original gimmick was so BAD! I hope you enjoy, I certainly welcome your opinions and feedback! Dave Schutt Charlotte,NC |
