Hi guys and gals wanted to let you know how my first kids show went.
First off I had a blast. The kids (about 12 of them ages 4-10) were so much fun and very animated. I did about 40 minutes and they were wonderful through the entire show. I did about 8 effects. The best part for me was talking after the show that every single one of my effects was a favorite! But the majority of favorites was my Coloring Book to Crayon Eating Monster one. That is where I take out my Coloring book show that it is just the outlines of the pictures, then I tap the book with crayons and the show that the book is colored in. Then I do my crayon eating monster (I got that from a Dan Harlan video). I put my crayons to the monster they disappear and then I take my coloring book to it and the pages go blank. Then to get the colors back out I open up the stomach and pull party streamers that are taped together to make a long colorful streamer. Just thought I would explain the routine if any new members want, what I think is, a good one for kids. Over all it was a great experience. They kids just couldn't get enough and I found that the time just went quick. I mean really quick. I intermingled kid jokes between the effects which I just did an internet search for. Just wanted to talk about my success and let people know that I wasn't nervous at all. When you have taken the time to really get your stuff down pat the nerves leave you. But if you are nervous remember after that first effect it is just amazing how a clap or a laugh will put your mind at ease. |

Congrats, Andy. Doing a successful performance is always a great feeling, and it also gives you more confidence for your next performance too.
The Magic Coloring Book I have found to be one of the best kid's tricks ever. The best part is--they're cheap. I always use mine as the highlight to me kid's act, and do it all the time while performing walk-around. Thanks for sharing! |

Hey Andy,
That's great to hear. A lot of times that first show can make or break a performer. Sounds like you did everything right, from picking out the right tricks for the kids on to having the routines down pat. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing with us, Bob. |

Kudos Andy, keep it up. You'll find that "fun" can make you a nice little amount of money.

Thanks for all the comments. I am leaving in about 30 minutes to do a second kids show today. I will let everyone know about that one later tonight.

Just to let everone know my second show went just as well as my first. I had a blast at both. It was nice to do some kid shows as I normally do adult shows.

Way to go Andy.
It opens a whole lot more doors being able to do both Adult and Kid shows. Take care, Bob. |

Hey Andy, uncanny - I don't normally come to this particular forum but thought I would search for Dan Harlans routine.
I too got the Penguin Lecture and I too did my first kids show using it - my sons birthday. 10 4/5 year old boys. I did the crayon eating monster, then went and said, now I don't have crayons I will use magic to colour my book. BUT YOUR routine is so much better, I love it, thank you!
