If you like word games, you might enjoy my free browser App at http://www.mindmagician.org/stringle.aspx
The object of the game is to add letters WITHOUT forming a word. You win if you force your opponent (the computer) to form a word. When you add a letter, the word string that is formed must enable a legitimate English word to be completed by the addition of more letters. The game's built-in dictionary knows just about every English word. Normal Scrabble rules apply, meaning that proper nouns (words that are usually capitalised) are not permitted. Mike |

We used to play this game on card trips. It was called GHOST. I'll check out the app.

Fun. I won a couple right off and then lost the next few. It definitely knows more words than I do. Might be fun if you could restrict it to common words. I think it would add an itneresting twist because you would know that if you picked a somewhat uncommon word you were taking a chance.

Thanks Mike. Yes, Stringle is a variant of Ghost. Stringle allows each player to add a new initial on their first move (this helps avoid the problem of set plays), but otherwise the rules are the same as for standard Ghost. You can choose different difficulty levels. I did consider a version restricted to common words but eventually decided against it (it wasn't as straightforward as I'd hoped). It's a good idea though and I'll maybe take another shot at it.

Excellent. I even beat it on only my fourth try. (Actually, maybe that's not very good.) Anyway, I found myself resenting the fact that my opponent always got to start.

You then have the choice of playing the next letter yourself or passing play to the opponent. This gives you a slight advantage. It also avoids the problem of repetitive or set plays. Mike |
