Hello Shawn,
Do you recommend acting classes for magicians? If so, which would you recommend more, improvisation classes or stage acting classes (acting with a script)? What other classes would you particularly recommend, if any? Thanks in advance for your response! -Mark Paulson p.s. One of the highlights from the PCAM 2012 convention was watching you perform magic in the hallways between shows and lectures! Good times! |

Hi Mark,
If I could give on piece of advice about acting I would say everyone should take the time to attend a Bob Fitch workshop. Yup, that's it. Go see Bob! http://www.fitchmagic.com/ Bob Fitch and what he does for magic is beyond words. It is not a cheap thing to do but it is an investment in your future. I have only had the opportunity to attend one workshop but it changed me. Here's a link to a vLog while at the workshop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAR0KeIK58A& I have never taken a traditional acting course so I really can't give you an informed opinion. Perhaps others reading this can give you better insight. I can say if I were to have the time and inclination to learn some basic acting skills I would lean towards improv. For years I was part of a number of improv comedy troupes and I know the lessons I learned performing with them translates into the work I do now. Thanks for the question -shawn p.s.
