Mark Nilsen's "Radio Magic" is a fantastic resource for magicians who would like to learn how to use radio effectively to promote themselves and their performances.
There are two volumes available to download on .mp3 and an accompanying .pdf manual for each. The information covers absolutely everything you need to know about getting booked and performing on live radio including: why radio is a good medium for marketing yourself how to find stations that will book you and how to approach them how to do magic over the telephone what types of tricks to perform and what to avoid how to get invited back how to involve listeners and drive them to your website Each volume includes 3 full on-air segments. Mark is an experienced performer, but the tricks he uses on air are simple effects that almost anyone could do. The real value is listening to how he takes these simple routines and breathes life into them. The reactions from the radio host are the proof that he does a good job. The accompanying manuscript goes through each segment and analyses both the strengths and weaknesses of each spot. I think it is the sign of a true professional that Mark is able to dissect what went well and what could be improved. It is of tremendous value to be able to learn from his thinking. It was interesting to see how Mark thought on his feet and was able to react to things the radio host said and avoid potential difficulties. Radio Magic is very thorough, well-produced and essential for anyone who is interested in learning how to perform on the radio. Highly recommended! And at $10 for each volume it is an absolute bargain! Available from http://www.niltech.net/radio.html |
