Fourteen years is a long, happy life for an 80 lbs pit/lab mix, but eventually, she just had too many problems, and was in too much pain. We found a vet who does house calls. She passed on in familiar surroundings, with family petting her the whole time.
Good girl, Trixie. Who's a good girl?

I feel for you. Best wishes to you and the Family.
If we want to share out lives with Dogs and Cats this is the reality. They are worth the pain for the joy they bring into our lives. They seem to enjoy our company too. Symbiosis is a beautiful thing. -Mary Mowder |

Very sorry for your trouble. I guess you are familiar with Byron's epitaph for Boatswain. I'm sure Trixie had a wonderful life, this time around. My brother sometimes says that he will take a 10-year "vacation" as someone's well-beloved dog the next time around for him.

A great looker for sure.
I'm sorry for your loss. And glad for you and her that you had such a long time together, and that you had a vet that would go to your house. I'm positive it helped everyone. R.I.P. dear Trixie. |

What a lovely, sweet doggie! What love she must have given your family!
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

You gave Trixie all she ever wanted, your love for her. I know she returned the favor by doing the same for you and yours. Trixie's a good girl.

Thank you for the kind words, everyone.
We're cleaning up slowly. The house seems so empty without the wet nose and wagging tail to greet me when I come in. And just when I thought I'd gotten all the poop picked up in the back yard, our neighbor's husky puppy squeezed through the slats in the fence last night and started frolicking around. My wife thinks maybe it wasn't random chance- perhaps Trixie stopped by in spirit, hitching a ride on a friend. "Come on, I've got a young body now, let's play!" The mortuary tech got Trixie's paw print pressed into a ceramic plate. She'll always be remembered.

That's a nice touch EsnRedshirt, I'm sorry for your loss as well. I've spent my whole life around animals, dogs and cats mostly.
One of my two cats, Mojo, is a 13yrs old. When he passes it will hit me really, really hard. Again, sorry to hear and my thoughts are with you. |
