So I am finally learning the Aronson stack and I am wondering where a good place to learn some handy deck switches are... books? DVDs? anything.
Thanks |

There are a couple of threads running on "the cooler", which employs a gimmick. Also, Dean Dill's Blizzard supplies a gimmick, which can be purchased separately from any magic shop. - deck [
Alternatively, you can steal the second deck immediately prior to the switch, then use a topit or lap to ditch the first deck. Done with good misdirection, this approach is very clean. |

Whit Haydn describes a magnificent deck switching maneuver, I think you can probably search for it on one of the forums here.
Another idea would be to structure your routine so that at the appropriate point in time, you have a perfectly obvious and understandable reason to put all or part of your deck in your pocket, and then a perfectly obvious and understandable reason to take it out again. |

A deck switch is not all that difficult. The Cooler is one way. The Deck Shell by Chazpro is another. Sometimes, it's just easier to put the deck in your pocket, and bring another out again in the guise of changing your mind.

IMO, an effective deck switch is to put deck 1 in your pocket "for the magic to happen" then retrieve deck 2 for the conclusion of that particular trick.

I will agree that the cooler looks way cool - penguin magic has a good video of it.

The cooler has gotten mixed reviews. It seems to do what it is supposed to do. When you know a deck switch is going to take place you will see it. If not you won't.
Obviously misdiredction is the best tool for a deck switch. If you don't believe me try Blizzard. It works.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

For $20, you won't find a better accessory! It comes in Red and in Blue. If ya go that route, I'd seriously get the DVD as well. This, my friend, is the secret... Doug |

You might want to check this out:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=76&1 Lots of good points here to consider. Like Doug, I have the Chazpro utility; it's great, but like The Cooler, it utilises a card box. If you need a QUICK switch, e.g. between cutting and dealing, these are not the way to go. Suggestion: Download Shawn Farquhar's LIVE 2-Hour Lecture on Penguin You won't be disappointed. He teaches his deck switch plus much more to offer. Again, you won't be disappointed.

Toppit is a good choice; load down the sleeve and then topit the other deck, as the deck comes down to your awaiting hand. Look up 'Expert Toppit Made Easy' video.

Many good recommendations above but without knowing your performing situation it is hard to come up with suggestions that will be right for you. The first thing to think about is are you going to perform standing or seated? If standing, there are many pocket-type switches that would work fine (many are listed in above posts) and there are also a couple of wonderful switches by John Archer on his Educating Archer DVDs.
If seated, you open up additional avenues that aren't available to the standing performer. One of my absolute favorite seated switches is by Peter Duffie and can be found on his Move Mastery vol. 2 CD-ROM. Here is the link to the video demo of the deck switch. It actually looks like nothing happens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srAlyP7cX......d#t=136s Mnemonica by Juan Tamariz contains a whole host of deck switches in addition to a wealth of mem deck material--I give that a "must read" recommendation. Good luck on your search.

Roberto Giobbi has a deck switch book that he is releasing through Hermetic Press early next year.
