Hi folks,
I'd love some technical help with this idea for a stage effect. Basically I'd like to have a feather fall from a high roof and land on my hand without me moving. I'm thinking IT, and an ITR that can pull very very gently (and ideally I can control the tension and speed), just enough to direct the feather to my hand, but without making the feather move too fast. I'm not experienced with ITRs or IT in general, so I'm not sure the best ITR to use for this. Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated. Pablo

Not sure if you ever got the answer you wanted but I stumbled over this while searching for some more ITR info myself. I believe you could control the descent more by managing the thread over and around your body as a sort of hookup that lets your hand let a bit more slack than the straight up ITR might provide, but it would give enough tension that all you have to control is how tightly you release it from your hand. I hope that idea helps. If not maybe we can figure it out together.

Thanks for the suggestion roguewave. I think that's the way to go. Not sure yet which ITR would be best for the job though, so may just try a few out.

I'm happy to report I've learned two new specific tips that I can pass along to you. One is that you need to look into a specific handhold called the Z Grip which will be what you can use to get slack on an ITR. The second might be exactly what you need. There is a model of ITR called the "standard" that is the first one James George ever mass-produced. It's HUGE by ITR standards, but it gives apparently has a much slower retraction allowing for a smoother effect and some magicians apparently refuse to use any of the newer ones because of speed issues since the originals creation. For sure look into that!

No problem at all! Just keep me in the loop on how it goes. I'm super interested in learning how to to IT and ITR work in as many ways as possible. Feel free to PM me sometime.
