One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

Of course that's the old science museum exhibition, but I wouldn't discount the warning at the end of the article:
Quote: Though the only immediate threat Blaine is likely to face during the three-day stunt is fatigue, some of the subtle byproducts of an exposed arc of current might actually pose a small health risk, according to Belcher.

Props to David for a great pub stunt! This will look so dangerous it is very likely to capture the imagination of many specs. Pure genius...

I'm not a fan of his style of magic, but I have to agree he's fantastic at keeping his name out in front of the public.

I think this is a mistake.
He's already had mishaps with the near-drowning and the Bungee of Death, and it was rumoured among the general public that he "cheated" during his starvation stunt in London. Now he's doing something he wants people to think is "dangerous," when it will undoubtedly be reported, every time it's reported at all, as something that actually isn't all that unsafe. Yes, there are "unsafe" elements due to the duration, but people will ignore that. Unless something really does go wrong ... in which case, it's a no-win scenario. Among the public, the story of this stunt will be "It's really not that dangerous." He did good things for magic when his first specials aired, but he's in danger of becoming a punchline. I wish he could quit the stunts and just do magic. |

It's powerful imagery, reminds me and probably the public of 'The Prestige' movie.

Does anyone really care about David Blaine's "IDIOTIC" stunts he has been performing (and I use the word performing loosely).
I agree with Magicbarry, his first few specials, when he did ONLY street magic were good as well as good for magic. As for these alleged "dangerous" stunts, put them someplace on the back page of the newspaper. One other thing I want to say, he has a personality like a corpse. He rarely smiles or says anything humorous. He needs to loosen up and get back to magic or he will gradually disappear from the magic scene.

A physicist was on the radio, who is 68 years old, and commented that he could easily do that stunt if he were only able to stay awake as there was absolutely no danger whatsoever involved. I'm sure that in this day and age that most with a minimal education could very easily have seen that this latest stunt was nothing more than a yawner and quite boring. But, he yet somehow manages to keep his name up there so all the power to him. Hey...he is a lot better and talented watching the likes of that idiot Criss Angel!

Magi seem to agree that his magic sucks and his stunts are great, or vice versa depending on who you talk to. In my opinion he has been good for the art.

Whatever became of his "underwater special"? Was it ever televised?

I have to agree with gaffed about the "idiot" Criss Angel, mister camera tricks himself! As for what longhaired1 says "In my opinion he has been good for the art" what art? The stunts he is doing now should not be considered "art"
And eatonmagic says "Loves and cares about magic and is seriously interested in those that feel the same" My question is, if he loves and cares so much about magic, then why is he not performing magic? Gaffed says,A physicist was on the radio, who is 68 years old, and commented that he could easily do that stunt if he were only able to stay awake as there was absolutely no danger whatsoever involved." So my final analysis would be: Get another street magic special which he is good at and he even smiles occasionally, and forget the sideshow stunts as most people are starting to realize it is more endurance than danger!!

Well, I feel no authority to offer David advice on what he should be doing- reports indicate he has amassed over 12 mil on his own. I agree that he does a lot of stunt work, but I have seen him do magic and do it quite well. Guess I put a lot of us into the "entertainer" or even "busker" category which can include magic but other forms of entertainment as well.
I also have no aversion to his personna. Having read his enjoyable book "Mysterious Stranger" I have a much better understanding. I still admire his electric idea, which once again uses his rather amazing stamina. The information age has made this kind of thing risky, though, and it seems the pundits destroyed this before it even lit up. At any rate, I consider DB good for magic and very good for busking... I can tell you that David is a very humble unassuming person in real life.
I wish him the very best and do know that he is doing great things for getting folks to love magic. I recently spent a few days with him here in San Diego. I would like to share with you a private moment that a few of us shared. It's kinda neat to see folks like Blaine, Paul Harris, and Gregory Wilson watch and learn from someone relatively new to the business in this Clip. |

Devious, now THAT is a great share! Thank you, thank you- a thrill to watch DB enjoying magic...
