I think one of the corollaries of learning any manipulation is that sometimes you try and fail and try and fail... until one day everything clicks and you wonder why you weren't able to do it right away. Sort of like learning to walk or ride a bicycle. It's not something that comes natural, but once you learn it, it becomes something that just seems natural and you sort of wonder: "Why couldn't I do this from the beginning?"
It took me a long time to learn to produce cards singly, so in the beginning I concentrated on just producing fans. But eventually the variables involved in single productions just fell into place. Of course, it would help if you belonged to a magic club or had someone who could mentor you. Marlo pointed out in _Card Fan Productions_ that before he wrote his book, those techniques were closely and jealously guarded by the professionals. Ganson says in Chapter 29 of _Routined Manipulation Finale_ that he himself learned it from Charles Kettle. In the old days, you could only learn secrets like this from someone who already knew it--sort of a master/apprentice relationship. I know the trend nowadays is to learn from videos. But you might also look into books on card manipulation. I especially recommend Ganson's _Card Magic by Manipulation_, which is also available as mentioned above in a section of _Routined Manipulations Finale_. The card manipulation sections of Henry Hay's _Amateur Magician's Handbook_ are pretty good as well. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Reference the exact position on the DVD from Juliana's DVD or post a video of your performing problem. Same with with Cardini, reference the DVD and position you are having a problem with or post a video of your problem. Your comment is to general to know what your speaking about. I don't know that Cardini did anything with a pivot in it, so again I don't know what you are referring to. I guess I need help in understanding your post. |

I learn from diffrent DVDs, but those all are in Lee Ang Hsuan's Evolution of card manipulation. In pivot, I have problems getting the card from back palm to front palm. Cardini.. Nothing work.. And in Juliana, when I produce the card, everything flashes.

RJH, looks like you jumped the gun, you need the basics before you attempt any of the Lee Ang Hsuan material. Front and Back Palm is not the work of Cardini, it goes back much farther then Cardini.
If Juliana Chen can do it, so can you, watch the video more to get her details she talks about. She starts in the Palm position. Do you know how to palm a card? Best to use her decks of cards to as well, they are smaller cards. |

I know basic stuff, back palming, perfect production.. And some stuff. Now when I have started to really watch Lee's DVD, I get the Cardini... But.. Juliana Chen's... I use Nielsen manipulation cards, but when I produce the card, I will flash others and the cards get out of my hand.

You may have posted this elsewhere, but how long have you been learning card manips, RJH?
Perhaps if you posted a short video showing what you can do at the moment, perhaps help could be directed more specifically, and consequently of more help to you. Regards, Dave

Are you using wax or fanning powder on your cards? This helps to keep them together for Chen's moves. If you are letting them slip, you must find the position on your palm that will secure the cards. Everyone's hands are different, so it is trial and error for each person.
