djurmann Inner circle thinks time to practice and stop writing 1481 Posts |
I have to agree with Dr J re the briefcase et al. If you are set on it contact the venue, talk to the restaurant manager, and see if it will be practical. Tables and people can be very tight together. Even if you get your table to them how are they going to see you? Personally though I would leave it at home. Also find out which tables are going to be served first and start at the other end.
If you are doing the evening, (noisy, people walking around etc) then the cups and balls could work quite well. People will (I assume) have seen you perform earlier in the day which will help. There may also be space on tables anyway (Johnnie, is dancing...therefore space on the his table, therefore you can do cups and balls on the table and people will be able to see it(the forest of glasses and bottles may have diminished at this point) so the people can see it. As a suggestion, take a small briefcase with tricks. Leave the table at home. Put a FEW tricks in your pockets, leave the briefcase behind the bar with the staff. If it looks like cups and balls is a goer you can always get them out, but DON'T spend your time running back and forth to your briefcase, not much entertainment value in that. Introduce yourself to the photographer - be nice. Let them take photos from wherever they want (yes this includes from the dodgy angles)..then see if they will let you look at the photos (after the event) and sell you/let you have any good shots you can use. Last but not least - enjoy! Let us know how you get on. |

Thank you all for your advice. It went really well. I did the coin nesting box trick which people enjoyed but after the second time I gave it up due to the fact that it needs to be reset. Unfortunately, there was a couple that even before I started it seemed like they weren't much into magic.

Congratulations on your success!
You will always encounter spectators and participants that are not interested in you or the magic you are performing. S2000 said it best - those people lose out and you just simply move on. |
