I like the "idea" of doing magic with what you have on you, but I don't get the actual magic happening through most of this. Plus the knot doesn't look like a knot:

Comedy aside, Hsuan's knot effect looks pretty good to me. I like the fact that it's done with a piece of clothing, rather than magician's rope. Might be a nice warm-up routine to music, or a quick interlude.

It is a great way to perform a strong and visual routine with no magic prop. It is clearly designed by a professional magician to be performed in real life whether you are in front of 20 or 800 people. The quality of what you get also proves it. Tie Knot will go straight to my repertoire!" - Boris Wild

Anyone knows the inventor of the routine? I am interested in the history of it.
I have been doing pretty much exactly the same idea now for around 3-4 years. Around a year ago I showed it to few magicians and one magician from USA supposedly started to do it in his act without my permission. Because of this I contacted Tim Trono, Scott Alexander, Richard Sanders and few other people last spring in order to perhaps bring this out to market. However because I am working pro I havent had time to make more than few demos of the routine with very basic explanation that I sended to the people mentioned. I have performance pieces recorded of me doing my routine at least from 3 years ago. My gaffing is different and more practical in my opinion and can be done to most ties, but basic routine is so similar that I don't think there would be really any market for my version anymore. It's a nice routine. I don't like the end where he put the small end back to the tie. However an idea is, to let the small piece vanish inside your pocket and finish the routine with the circle. That gives you a reason to move on with for instance a bow tie routine and end up with a bow. I will order this.

I have included magnets in the tie. Now I can show it as a regular tie and whenever I want release the magnet connection and I am ready to go.

Milesart: thanks for the idea with magnets. But why don't take and put a magnet into the bowtie, and a magnet up in your shirt, and then you can end it with a bowtie at your neck
Just a thought. |

Ugly tie. Plus it's a quasi clip-on. What's not to like.

The ties are usually hollow by nature so the extra piece can be hidden inside the tie until needed. Magnet keeps it in place. Juha-Matti |

As for the history of this effect, I have performed a similar routine in my stand-up work through the 90´s. I took it to competition at FISM 1997 in Germany - therefore it is on the record since then.
