I want to add a effect to my parlor routine. It’s one of those “so old it’s new, type things” The routine requires a coin to vanish with a devils Hank. This works fine. However I will be using a key. I know I can still use the hank for the key. But I don’t think the hank vanish has the feel I am looking for. It is suppose to feel like I lost the key. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Using technique where another object with a hidden magnet takes it away having been briefly placed on your target object. It keeps your hands well clear of the target key and is easy to retrieve. Tom Stone has a v clean effect for cards on this theme.

Lofts Magic sells a Vanishing Coin gimmick under their magic trick Empire Magic line called "Coin Go". This is an old custom gimmick from years ago called "Coin Go", it is a special clip attached to an elastic pull. The clip will fit coins and keys.
https://www.loftus.com/item/LF-0673 I searched, but could not find a dealer advertising it, it is less then $10, so you will have to ask your local magic shop to get one in for you. The next idea is the old "Vanishing Key", I don't think it is being made, but you can make one yourself if you care to. It is works the same a s "HOO Coin". Can therefore be vanished an retrieved easily. |

If you want to give the impression to loose the key, maybe you could use a real hank (ungimicked) and, as you place the key UNDER the hank you switch it for a penny or a nickel. Then you ask for someone to hold the "key" thru the hank (He hold the coin beleiving it is the head of the key). You pretend to vanish the "key" and suddenly you take a corner of the hank and pull hard on it (the spectator will not be able to hold it) and the coin will fly accross the stage doing noise as if your key is gone south! It creates a great laugh (at least when I did it when it was part of one of my finger ring routine on stage!)
Hope it will help or give you ideas. Dave |

Andy, you could also do a Gypsy Switch and change the key into a coin while still retaining the key. It's a very old, but effective move.
