Those "Eternal Order" members do not do magic full-time they like to just sit on the Café all day and night and stir up debates for their own entertainment mostly. Like I said do what works for YOU and your audience, you are the one getting gigs and that is what matters. I stopped arguing with those types on forums because it never gets anyone anywhere and makes their night. They do the same "tired and boring act" on here every day and have for years. It is sad how try and maniplulate everyone's opinion if it differs from theirs. They should try getting out and getting some sun and maybe do a gig or two instead on living on the Café looking for debates and people to agree with them and boost their low self-esteem. But hey that works for them. Also "comedy" is not magic either. Some are taking this WAY too seriously. No one is claiming that they are the next Seinfeld, most do magic tricks at a restaurant. Get a grip. I get regulars all the time at my restaurant and outside gigs, and they are always excited about what "new stuff" that I got. And I happily show them. Not necessarily my entire act is new, but I do have 2-3 new effects ready to go. That happens a lot if you work locally and don't travel worldwide. They don't come to see my last show unless they want to try and figure out a trick. They would already know what is coming, duh! That is common rule of magic that you learn when you are 5, don't repeat any tricks. But I am going to bow out as well because this is just a way to waste time and never get anywhere in between rehearsals and gigs. Enjoy the endless debates, disinterested superiority, and bickering!

Well you are the faceless one and nameless one. I bet Brian will confirm for you that I am quite real as we have spoken on the phone before. But why let an inconvienent thing like a FACT get in the way of your opinion?
Isn't it ironic how you, the nameless faceless one says not to listen to nameless faceless people? I think so, but then again I am a fan of irony. For the record I never said his reputation was on the line, I never said comedy was not magic, and I never said don't do new tricks. Lets not get confused. Lets at least use the words I said if it is ok with the nameless faceless poster. Oh and as for not performing... well lets just say that you are wrong and leave it at that. By the way it amounts to 5 messages a day. Hardly going to take all day to get that now is it? But then again why let a little fact get in the way of being wrong? The topic was about doing an entirely new act for a paying client. Not about what you want to twist it into.

Nice topic. I think being bored as a mentalist or magician makes a lot (me included) buy new inventions or create something new. New is relative of course.
Occasionally I will add something new and different to my show but it has to flow and apply a disconnect with set pieces already polished and paced out. I know some say you really know you have arrived when a non-comedian can go out and perform with no props. I have gradually reduced my props after my show when I am paid to stroll. I gave it a big GO this past week and felt really good about it and the reactions. Of course I threw in a few "experiments" but in the long run, its YOU they are paying to see (provided you get them to like you). Ramblings after being up all night. Decomposed With A Few New Ideas

Brian,
A tip of the hat to you. One for trying something a daring as setting aside the tried and true and starting over from scratch. That takes a pair of big brass ones! But sharing your journey here on the Café took even bigger brass ones! |
