So tonight I invented a new set of handcuffs/shackles that works on an old principle, though I'm not quite sure it's ever been applied this way. I was thinking of selling my new idea or sets of the cuffs, but selling them doesn't make much sense because you have to buy the correct size for your wrists and I would have to make them by size (not really worth it.) Anyway, they're made out of a piece of plumber's equipment and you drill them to fit lock shackles and soder them together a bit (which I will do soon).
They are superior to other restraints which use the O--- principle. They look cool, and very impenetrable, though they work like in and out cuffs. The advantage they have over normal O--- shackles is that they are much more examinable by the audience. The audience can examine them fully before you put them on and after you put them on. You can't actually lock them onto a spectator and challenge them to escape. They don't have that level of examinability, but you can have them examined without the locks on them, they are ungimmicked and the locks are ungimmicked. In any case, the restraints are made from two "extension split pipe clamps". http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/495925......amp.html In plumbing, these are used to suspend pipes from the ceiling. You run a pipe along the cieling, and the clamp goes around it, screwed into a threaded rod (which you attach to the ceiling. At the other side of the clamp there's a hole for a screw. My idea for a restraint was to drill the screw hole a bit larger (no jokes please) so that you can run the shaft of the shackle (of a lock) though the hole. The lock hangs downward. The threaded rod is cut short and threaded into it and another clamp on the other side. Add a bit of soder and viola! Cool looking shackles for under $30. You, of course, need to find extension split pipe clamps that fit your (and only your) wrists. If you're still curious about the method PM me.

Found EXACTLY the right lock for this: http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-510D-A......0004SQL2
You do have to gimmick the lock a bit, so that it can't be pushed any shorter than you want. (a little soder on the inside of the holes at the right height makes it so that they're no longer "adjustable" but will only lock at the specific setting you want. The advantage of these is that they CAN be placed on the spectator's wrists (with a little care) and they CAN be challenged to escape (which they can't, especially if you hold their arms out away from their body). So what you've got here is an examinable restraint that serves as in and out cuffs. They don't work as fast as other in and out cuffs (well, mine don't, but they are tight fitting). Nevertheless, a large, examinable and challenge-able pair of shackles for under $30 is certainly a good asset to the arsenal.

Go ahead and build the thing, you never know where it may end up or where it may take you.
