I have used TOD in several performances now. I get a response even stronger than I expected. My presentation is very different from that in the instructions.
I begin by explaining the discovery of Crossed Bones Cemetery and the tags. After the spectator examines the tags closely and mixes them face down, she freely selects one of them. Thus, neither of us knows(?) which billet has been selected. I offer her a purse (larger than the one supplied) of pennies and she takes some to pay the carter. My ploy is to ask her questions about the spirit associated with the tag (which she still has not seen) and from her responses, which she "psychically" senses, I can determine which facility issued the billet. This gets an audience response. But then I ask her how much she must pay the carter, and she has exactly the right number of pennies available (second audience response). I do not use sleights or trick coins, just appropriate deception to achieve the kicker of the correct number of pennies at the end.
