I have the Mini Morphosis and can not get the curtain to work cleanly. It seems as though I have to make a few passes and hope the magnet catches. Does anyone else have this problem and if so have they found a solution?

The Café has a search feature you may not be aware of. If you look at the top right of the topic page (the one you're presented with after you click 'enter'), you'll see a group of links. Click 'search'. In 'search for keyword', enter 'mini morphosis', under 'search in', scroll down to 'Tenyo of Japan'. Then click 'Begin Search'. Your answer will be there among the threads, including the fact that you're not the only one to have this problem.

Second attempt to help? Thank you very much
I told you in your other thread to use a different/new neodium magnet in stead of the old one. Have you tried this? |

Add a steel coin to back of magnet curtain to add more weight. Makes it sure fire now.

I just bought mine from eBay and am having the same problem as was reported here. I did try a "steel coin" unfortunately that didn't really help.
I suspect that a stronger magnet i.e. neodymium will be the way to go, anyone know what strength would be recommended. A N35, N42, N45 etc These are relatively expensive and I would rather not resort to trial and error. Also anyone find that the stock magnet ever worked reliably for them? I have tried to dip my thumb to act as a guide but even this proved to be unreliable using the stock magnet. Thanks, P.S. I have tried Tips #1 (as stated above) as well as #3 and #4. 2 was very helpful and I believe #4 is also interesting though it may be more difficult with a stronger magnet. In fact even with the stock magnet you see some "movement" Tip 1: Attatch a small "suitable" coin to the back of the gimmick on the curtain. This adds more weight to the curtain - thus making the working even better. The flap of the curtain covers this coin and can even be lightly stuck to the coin to avoid the curtain opening up. I advise everyone to do this. Tip 2: You do not need to shake the box once the red ball is in the lid. Instead, make sure the ball is in the centre of the box prior to placing the lid. Hold the the lid for above by gripping the long sides and have have your forefinger resting over the middle of the lid. Place the lid on the box and immediately press down with your forefinger to bring the lid and the ball "that little bit closer to eachother". You should find now the ball is ready to go. Tip 3: If you place a small mark on the back of the curtain where the gimmick is, you can now use that as a visual guide on how far to lift the curtain up in order to trigger the mechanism. This means you do not need to look into the curtain to execute the effect. Tip 4: If you prefer to look into the curtain slightly so you can trigger the mechanism easily, then turn the box around beforehand so that the gimmicked edge is towards your audience and also turn the curtain around too (flap towards the audience). Now you can see the gimmick in the curtain better without having to put your head directly over the box. Tip 5: Try using coins, dice and other small objects instead of or inconjunction with the balls |

There is a thread from not to long ago that had a link onto a video where the guy performed the trick with a glass rather than the curtain.
He does not engage the lock but the glass holds the gimmick in place. As he removes the glass his hands are in the way enough to obscure what happens. I perform it now without the curtain after seeing that excellent idea. I use 1 ball and a half dollar or Johnson's Silver/Brass/Copper coin set. The mini morph gimmick is left unlocked, held in position with a finger until the coin is placed off center to your left to hold things in place. I then cup my hands and I slide the coin to the right with my right thumb which is obsured by the cupped hands. The weight of the coin holds things in place and the clunck of the coin entering the trunk hides the gimmick noise. As far as the ball in the trunk is concerned, I don't shake it I merely turn it over and show the bottom of the trunk. |

I bought the magnets below. They are wafer thin and you can stack as many as you want to get the perfect strength.
I attached them to the curtain with double sided tape. I use 5 or 6 which is stronger than the stock magnet but much thinner and smaller. I tape one to each side of the curtain and then you can add and takeaway as many as you want using the magnet attraction. Us guys on this side of the pond also used them in the cover for Merlin's Coffer. Snap off the 4 clips, add some of these flat magnets and cover it with a precisely trimmed business card magnet, the black side. The business card magnet is not strong enough on its own. It mostly exists to hide the others and it is easy to cut and free from local businesses. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130781678222?ssP......23.l2649 |
