I've been using 2 peas at the start of my 3-shell game routine. I start my effect with the Sheets/Morphew one-minute workout. I've tried a couple of ways to get into the proper "equipment position". The first is to take 2 peas out of a little pillbox as secretly as possible, while talking and trying my best to misdirect the spectators with my description of what's about to happen. Once I have the 2 peas in my right hand, I drop one onto the mat, and load the other into equipment position with my arm hanging down at my side. The other approach I've used recently is to drop 2 peas on the mat at the beginning and ask the spectator to select one. Then I apparently drop the reject into my right pants pocket, but actually I hold onto it.
Neither method works perfectly. Although the 2nd method might seem clean, I think that it might also create the suspicion that both peas are in play (which they are of course). The problem is that spectators sometimes ask to see my "empty" hands, which means that I am tipping them off right at the start. And I don't know how to show that my hands are empty when at that moment there is an extra pea in my right hand, and the spectators are burning my hands. Any suggestions are appreciated! Spike |

When starting off with extra peas in my hand, I like to have them in a deep thumb clip and you can show both sides on your hands empty. After that you can release the pea to fall too a inside finger clip. Back finger clip works fine also. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, Al. I assume that your "deep thumb clip" means at the base of the thumb. Is that right? But how do you load a pea into that position? Doesn't that just move the problem one step earlier? Incidentally, I don't know much about palming coins.

Yes,at the back of the V area of thumb & index finger If you give me your email in a P.M., I will make a short video on what I am talking about, how to get it there and how to show your hands empty. You will find that coin moves work very good with a soft pea. The main coin sleights used with the pea that you should learn are: Finger Clip, Back finger clip and the thumb clip. These three will cover most the things you need to do with the pea.

If you have control over the working surface, you can devise a "holdout" with an embedded magnet and matching mag pea.
Or for that matter, anywhere in your clothing where you can duct tape a flat magnet on the backside in an inconspicuous location. (edge of coat, pants, shirt tail, etc)

I keep my shells and pea in zipper coin purse I tell a very short story while taking one pea in finger palm then take pinch second pea (only pea shown) and start routine. Only thing different I do at beginning of routine is show both side shells empty (fake) then lift center shell displaying pea. Hope makes sense. |

Stack the shells like the cups and balls. Put shells on the table and then dump out the visible pea. Unstack shells and show your hands empty. Adjust the shells and then start. I think you can read between the lines here.

I don't introduce the pea until half way into my routine. I use the stack so that my hands do not have to go into my pocket. There are other holdouts available, and as long as you use the prop through out the routine, (like using the pen as a pointer), they work just fine.
