After schlepping the same show around for 9 years, with the same dynamic, to some degree, I've fond a different sense of what works here in a predominantly conservative country.
Especially when English isn't the first language. There is material I can't rely on or use to a larger extent and have managed, through trial and much error, find a path to the 'hat'. It's in being gracious, appreciative, and slightly humble, that helps put the $$ in the hat. I came here with my 'angry persona', and didn't get so far. . Oh yes, it worked to an extent, but now with caveats, an understanding of the culture here, and a bit more graciousness,my shows are better, and the hats have improved. I've met and spent some great times with local magicians here, some are on this forum, and taken pleasure in the company of others. Not easy for me as I'm a bit of a curmudgeon...must be getting old. The elements I've learned here will hopefully hold me in good stead for when I leave these shores, and head back home. Yay... Only 17 days before I see my Anna, and our cat... JJ |

I'll bet that was quite a challenge seeing as busking isn't native there not to mention speaking a foreign language.
A good busker will adapt to whatever pitch is presented to him as you have.

Cheers Zoobini, hit the nail on the head with that one, and Mario, yes... It's got a couple of weeks to run, and then will be replaced by a new curve...
Still in Malaysia till the 29th, and then a ream of gigs when I get back. It's been busy, busiest I've been for a long time. Being away from home and my wife hadn't been easy, but now it's coming to the end of the contract, it's getting easier. Been filming and in production for MagicNews. Met some of the MalYsian magicians here... And boy have they got some chops...puts me to shame... |
