This is not a question (or really a necessary post at all), but more of a homage to the excellent trick that is Las Vegas Leaper (Art Of Astonishment Volume 1). I recently put this trick to use, and was taken aback by the massive responses I got. Its such a simple trick, but when handled correctly it is extremely powerful. What really got me was how multiple times (probably one out of every three performances) the volunteer would take the cards out of their pocket/purse/hat and exclaim "wow, I can tell there are more cards here". This is awesome since the feel of the packet did not actually change. Its these little psychological intricacies that help make a great trick. Im sure many of you already know of this trick, or even employ it, but if not I greatly urge you to seek it out.

I learned it in the late 70's from Paul's book Las Vegas Close-Up. It created quite the buzz back then when it came out.
For those that don't the trick, Michael Ammar performs it here ( 3:10 into the clip ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMks7ufeCgw&feature=related |

I just re-read this one last week. Anything that happens in the spectators hands is a keeper.

I love cards across. When I first started and got into magic with Royal Road I performed 3 card across maybe a 2000 times... It was the "I show everyone" effect. Then I found this version and Bill Malone's version. Both are incredible.

Its a great effect and I'm a big fan of the cards across plot. However I'm not keen on the strange count used at the beginning of the effect,if you watch the youtube clip even the great Micheal Ammar has to keep very strict control over the precedure which can then lead to suspicion or at least that's how it looked to me if I'm honest.

Roger and Warren,
I received your PMs and I will be responding. I'll ask you up front to keep an open mind. My solution may seem strange but it has always worked. I seem to remember that I came up with it after reading either a Nick Trost or Stewart James effect a few years back. Namaste, Vlad |

The trick came out in the 1970's when Nevada was the only place to find a casino. Very few people you'd ever meet ever had been in a casino.
I still perform this and changed the patter a bit about the world's largest gambling mecca, Macau ( they exceeded the gambling revenue of Las Vegas in 2007 ). They play "Chinese Poker" and here is how they count the cards. What if I met someone that played Chinese Poker in Macau? I'd drop my cards and run to the store to buy a lottery ticket. |

A strong cards across routine seems to consistently get a very positive audience reaction. This is one of the better handlings; Derek Dingle's is great,as well.

Does anyone do the Al Baker version? There's a lot of palming and a couple of false counts
