Hi everyone,
I saw this nice trick a couple of weeks ago. The magician was challenging a spectator to tie a knot in a rope without letting go of the ends. He uses this real simple patter. The magician can do it but when the spectator does it no knot appears. The magician did it over again and over again and every time it worked for him. He actually led the spectator do the patter until the end. And instead of the spectator holding the rope the magician takes over the ends without any funny stuff and the knot appears. Does anyone know this trick and can give me its name or book where I can find it. It was a very funny stage illusion. Thanks |

It's called the Hunter knot, and it's in Karl Fulves's Self Working Rope Magic.

Please pardon a little plug...but it's on topic. This knot (and dozens more) are taught and demonstrated on my soon to be released DVD The Dennis Loomis Knot Routine. Plus! We just finished editing this last week and are going to start authoring it tomorrow, November 10.
I expect to have the first batch before Christmas. They'll be available from at least one dealer's booth at WMS in Vegas. And, since I'm going to be there, I'll be happy to help with any of the Knots in person. Just ask me. Perhaps the best knot on the DVD is not done by me. It's Bill Spooner's SnapKnot. Bill demonstrates and teaches this for the first time in a video format. (It has appeared in print.) There are also guest appearances by Mary Mowder and Dick Oslund. To get back to the topic, there are two or three variations of this old "gag" which is great fun at parties. It’s also been a "staple" at some summer camps. The variations are on the DVD as well. Hi guys,
Bought the book. And I must say I really like this trick very impromptu and baffling (and easy, haha.) Thanks for the advice. Bumper |

Joe Berg also had a clever take on this one. It's in his book The Berg Book. Very slick and puzzling, slow and very visual.
