I am starting to get real good at this levitation. However I would like to know what you guys have found to work and what doesn't work so well. How far away should the spectator be, what angle, how many people, any clothing tips?
You don't have to resond on this Thread if you are going to reaveal anything. You can PM to protect the secret. I have my own tips but I'd like to get more! |

Personally, I hate the Kings Rising but heres a few tips:
1. Wear a bright(er)shirt and dark pants, misdirects the eyes off your legs. 2. don't wear track pants or the like, as they make quite abit of noise. |

The king rising isn't a horrible lev at all - be careful of the angles and stand about 3-5 feet away.
Of course I can float, - can i borrow a jet pack from the audience please?

It's better to cover your feet with a jacket for a moment, bend your knees and like always, never tell them what you'll be doing.

The king's rising is almost impossible unless you have really strong ankles. I stick with the balducci as there are no cover ups. Yeah, the angles are critical, but once you get it, people will remember you forever, and like dynamiteassassin said, NEVER tell them what you are about to do. Let it hit em' like a ton of bricks!

I have a much higher success rate w/ KR than I do w/ balducci. Strange... People just give me strange looks and kinda crack that "completely baffled" smile with king rising. I would say that you should be pretty close however. I only wish I could do w/out the jacket...

There has to be some form of misdirection that one could use to avoid the problem with using the jacket.
Before even doing the trick, I would usually intensely gaze at a certain point in the sky. The person I'm performing for would usually look up at the same time. At this point, you could do the KR technique. When you end, I tend to throw the jacket down subtlely as if I lost my energy. I'm still trying to find a solution to avoid that. Any one have an answer for that?

It actually puts more pressure on your calves than your ankles in my opinion.

Um I dunno..I think Balducci is the best -
there's too many variables with kings rising - if you have long toes forget about it! Angles dead on 90 degrees and they have to be at a certain distance - if they too close they will see the secret -if they too far you will get laughed at! Trust me I've tried it! |

I don't see how KR could be good on the streets. Seeing how if bystanders glimpse what you are they will understand what you are doing.
The Balducci on the other hand you might just get away from it saying you were too far away to see anything...with KR, you can't use the same excuse...

Something you might find interesting:
I was making a promotional video for a local magician. In the video he wanted to perform kings rising! we had to do about 7 takes constantly adjusting camera angles and distance to get it to look right and even when we got it down it didn't look believable. Now you might think that the guy just didn't know how to do the trick - wrong! we both know the illusion and both attempted it - just not worth the pains of the clean up and setup. Not trying to do down the product I'm just telling you how it was with a camera which we can control viewing angles! imagine the with spectators! |

I don't feel KR works as a stand alone (hehe) trick.
What I do is this... I first use my jacket to do a couple of con levitations, The specs all laugh and point at my fake attempt. Then I bust KR and it always gets them. They are all getting ready for another laugh at me but get a good shock as they see the king.
