Hi, I was looking around the files on my computer and came across an old idea of mine on another shimable deadlocked cuff.
This is a cuff which has been deadlocked by a spectator but you main tool is just a shim and you still get out. There are already a few brands out there where this is possible but just wondered if anyone is doing this and if I should test out the idea for another new style. Ian

Hi Ian
Given you know my current inventory and direction - my thoughts: Utility tools or knowledge are most useful in my opinion. If it were possible to compile a reference of cuffs with the techniques and tools required for each, that could be invaluable!!! I've mentioned the double-locking issue to you before, and you offered a spectator management suggestion which if delivered with authority can help. It seems to me that if one could use a shim either as a backup or the primary method, that would be a solid investment in time, tools and effort. On the concealment side - this would be great too. I'd certainly be interested in this - and of course if it could be expanded to locks ... I think the bottom line is that while it is usually possible to work around the situation, the ability to shim a range of double locked cuffs would be a great advantage. Obviously, the more "typical" the cuffs concerned, the better. Also - it would allow the whole routine to be elevated to a higher level, doing it the way Marlo did as we recently discussed. Hi Ian,
Depending on the price, I might be intersted in such a cuff. But on the other hand, unless there are a large number of cops in my audience, most people don't have a clue about double locking cuffs. I could educate them, but to what end. "See, once I do this, they cannot be shimmed!" I think I am givng a lay audience more than they need. Yet again, on the other hand, if you get a cop on stage, (remember I was once blessed with a Superior Court Judge on stage, He examined a pair off cuffs and declared them "bona fide") he might want to double lock the cuffs, which in the case you are speaking off is a great way to protect yourself from someone knowedgable who is either trying to screw you up, or trying to protect your wrists if you fall on the cuffs or somehow manage to tighten them accidently. Bottom line, I don't know, but it sounds like a good idea.

I think this would be a good road to take for your own amusement but on stage Im not so sure. The speckies have enough to take in and to educate them could be falling on deaf or even drunk ears.
To me, get trussed up, let them see your well secured,,,give it a story to hang on then get the F*** out of them,,,straight on to the next section. Looking back over the past 50 cuff dems I have done for dosh it breaks down like this, 35 used a key (concealed) 10 release of single band as a finish, 2 slipped and 3 shimmed (Also the shimmed took time wise a lot longer so working to a timed backing track was difficult). My thoughts !! Ken. |

Ken I think you have summed it up well. Still I think the cuff itself sounds cool.

If it were possible to have a cuff that could be opened without tools and the spec could decide to deadlock if they wanted to, that would be useful.
Kind of an ADA2.0.

Hi Ros, the ADA has always been available with functioning DL or inactive DL (the spec can deadlock it but you can still get out)
My cuffs are customized to the performers needs and safety. That's why I like to discuss selection with the client, other than just take their money becasue they saw something on a website. (old fashion service)

Customised to the performers needs and safety,,,,the most important service an entertainer could require and where else would you find a statement like that on a sales site.
Well done Ian and you practise what your preach,,,a rarity these days. Ken |

Ian,
I thought if the ADA was dead locked the cuff wasn't actually dead locked. In other words the bows still move despite the dead lock being put in place. If that's wrong, then my apologies.

Hi Ros, no apology required. Some EA's desire a cuff which when deadlocked, doesn't move (maybe for examination reasons or when they leave their equipment in the hands of others backstage, with staff, in transit etc)
Others who use them for dangerous stunts, NEVER want anything to go wrong and have the deadlock disarmed so even if someone automatically applies the deadlock, they can get out. Ian

Got it. Thanks for clearing that up. I never thought of having a working dead lock on an ADA, but it makes sense as to why it would be there.
What would be cool, at least I think so, is to have a cuff where the dead lock could be applied. Seen to be on. Cuffs examined etc.. Yet the cuff can be escaped without using tools. So it has a working dead lock, but the performer can still open the cuffs despite this fact. I don't know if such a cuff even exists. Or where you'd go about making one.

Hi, Santini's Clejuso 12R is the ultimate. Next is a rap-off deadlock other type of gimmick but for most of these good ideas, there is not the demand for them. Most people want the cheapest but best equipment and the two don't go hand in hand.

The cuff is the German made Clejuso 12 R. Steve discovered how to open it from deadlock without tools, A clever bit of detective work. Kudos to him.

I'm sure I've seen that in print somewhere. Might just have to get my books out and try to find it again.
