For those of you who watched my other thread (Choosing between cheap cups) learned I bought some Morrissey cups (I think!). However, I just realized something; even though the person I bought them from said they were Morrissey I'm not entirely sure. They look like Morrissey large's to my untrained eye, but I'd really like an expert evaluation.

Looks like Morrissey to me, too.

That's pretty much what I expected. I wish I could narrow them down to a date of manufacture (roughly). Comes from collecting violins I suppose. Maybe Mr. Palmer will chip in on that.

How deep is the saddle on these? The Morrissey sets like these are notorious for having little to no saddle what-so-ever. Almost completely flat (almost). I am pretty certain these are Morrisey.

These are fairly recent Morrissey cups. I'd say within the past 5 or 6 years.
You can tell they are Morrissey cups by the folded mouth bead. Morrissey large cups and Morrissey mini cups are the same diameter, but are different heights.

A fiddler and banjo player in the same thread?? A fiddle teacher once told me, "never show fear of the banjo, for
that means they won." Not sure what it meant, but struck me as funny. |

Here's a Nashville riddle: What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle? Answer: Strings and Strangs

I used to have a copper set but a long series of misfortunes lost them for me. now that I'm getting back into magic I'm starting off with a cheap set of aluminum cups. my mom sent me a check for xmas and it was enough to visit Penguin Magic and order a set of Uday cups. hopefully I'll be able to recreate my old routine and eventually parlay my earnings with it into a prettier set. I just can't fathom spending $300 or $400 for one though. must be getting too old. |
