Hi all,
Just wondering if "Darwin's Inexpensive Illusions" was a good starting book to learn some simple illusions, what do you think? Also could you reccomend any books, DVD's or whatever that have a solid amount of basic illusion knowledge. I'm trying to learn all the basics such as bl*** a** and ba** work. Thanks for your help, Mike Rogers

Hi Mike,
Ralph Adams is great innovative material (book with video) The methods used here could easily be applied to modern illusion design..highly recommended Darwins book is just in my opinion, pretty much an extension of the North Bigbee illusion in Tops treasurery..so you decide. Hope this helps best regards Mark Parker - http://www.4-effect.com

Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth to the statement that the best kept secrets in magic are in print. Don't overlook the knowledge in the old classic books in magic. I have been to three magic conventions in the last sixty days in which the stars confessed that at least one major effect in their regular stage routines came from Tarbell. I still go back to Mark Wilson for ideas more often than I would like to admit. I moved two Osborne books off my desk last night. After forty-two years of magic, I still find great illusion "stuff" in my early library items. And they suddenly seem new and appropriate. Often they just appear like magic. READ! READ! READ!
Never let your library get away from you. Those are the resources you know best. Inventing something new is for magic meetings. Professional entertainment is for paying audiences. They both have their place but they don't pay the same. Good entertaining illusions are not always expensive and expensive illusions are not always entertaining. You have lots of choices. Reading will make you aware of them. You are on the right track. Keep after it! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
