I'm sure many of you are familiar with Luis Zingone's Recorded Card Tricks. Well, I recently obtained a 78 rpm record he made as part of a Post Toasties promotion in 1940! The cardboard cover is worn, but the graphics are still colorful and it includes the instructions. It is a premium that was given to grocery store owners and not intended for the general public.
When I received the record, it was warped and had a crack. But I got in contact with Jim Cooprider and he did a great job of fixing it. One side of the record appears to be one of the sides from the original Recorded Card Tricks album. The other side was specially recorded for the promotion: the selected card is found by spelling out "Post Toasties." Jim Cooprider told me that, based on the matrix number on the record, it is a standard Victor pressing done in late January or early February of 1940. The little bit of information I have been able to gather suggests that customers who sent in two box tops and ten cents were sent plastic 78s, but this is a standard 10-inch shellac 78. I'm guessing this is pretty rare. If anyone has any additional info on this, I'd love to hear about it. Joe Libby San Antonio, TX http://www.joelibby.net

I have the 78 Record set. There are actualy 3 different records in the set. The three records come in a stiff, illustrated binder. Garry Hayes |

Hi Garry: That's cool! I actually started out looking for the album when I virtually stumbled across the Ebay listing for the Post Toasties record.
I have a digital recording of the three record album. Thanks! Joe Libby
