Hello everyone! My name is Peter Steele. I have been browsing this forum for a while and finally had an email address that wasn't blacklisted to join! I am part owner of a magic shop here in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It's called Doc's Magic Shop and we have 3 stores in Gatlinburg alone! We also have another store in Pigeon Forge and one in Sevierville! I wanted to get on here and meet new people and see who was out there! I know that there isn't a lot of other Magic Shop's left and would love to meet others who run and own other magic shops around the country. I can't wait to dive in and meet everyone! So again Hi and nice to meet you all!

Welcome PeterSteele111,
And best of luck for your Brick and Mortars. A lot of Magic happens at physical Magic Shops that just can't happen on the internet. -Mary Mowder |

Thanks. We do pretty good as we are in a very heavy foot traffic tourist trap area. All of the Stores make decent money and we defintely arent hurting here. We gear mainly to kids and begginers as our main clients but we do have each shop with unique items for those that are advanced and intermediate as well. Its definitely one of the best experiences of my life owning a magic shop and running one. I wouldnt trade it for the world.

Welcome Peter!
Happy to hear that there is one more brick & mortar shop that is 'making it'! OOPS make that 5 more! Percy Abbott at one time had four. (60 years ago) NYC CHI INDPLS, HOLLYWOOD. I seem to remember that Max Holden had three. Boston NYC and Phila. Dick Stoner has a base store, but adds several others for the Hallowe'en season. Glad you are here!

I just visited one of your shops over the Christmas holiday. Very nice experience. There was a young boy in the shop who was so excited about the magic tricks. One of your magicians spent a lot of time with him, even though I didn't see his parents buy anything. I'm sure you made a lasting impression on that youngster. Well done!

Nice to meet you, Peter. I worked at The Magic and Novelty Outlet that was located in the Mountain Mall in Gatlinburg for about two years (between 2004-2007). I learned so much about marketing and selling magic while there, not to mention it got me through college.
I welcome the opportunity to get together sometime to chat about magic and the business. I live in Knoxville, but Gatlinburg isn't so far I wouldn't drive to make a new friend. |
