Have been doing alot of practice with different variations using IT after I got my Jon LeClair "Who is Afraid of I.T." DVD, it is a great buy for beginners of I.T. work.
With the DVD you also get IT and flesh color putty. I have used only the thread that comes with the DVD and l am sorry to say, it breaks too easily! I know you will have to pracitce a lot to get it to work as it is supposed to, but I belive you will have to act as normal as if the thread wasn't there to make the spectators belive it is real magic. And because it breakes off that easily, you will have to do every move very carefully, and that is not the natural look I am searching for. That is why l ask you threadworkers out there, where can I get stronger (elastic)IT? Thanks in advanced! -e-

Nice alternative Bobcape,
Just went down to the local fishingstore, but they did not know of any of their fishinglines that could be stripped into thinner lines. How about the thread sold at magic shops, some are supposed to stretch 500% of their original state. Sales gimmick or true?

Eirik,
Have you checked out your local fabric store for "wooly nylon" I have found good success with this. Not all are created equally but if you look around you may find a good brand. Dennis

Get Kevlar Thread. It really is the strongest.

Hi Erik,
When I first started learning to use IT, I, too, kept breaking it. But the more proficient I became, the lesser the frequency of the breakage. Not only because I’ve found the right kind threads but also because I’ve discovered techniques to lessen the possibility of breakage during the performance. As to the elastic ITs that stretch 500%, breakage won’t be your primary problem when you use it, but it’s occasional shine that is difficult to overcome even in the most forgiving lighting conditions. Michael Ammar, on one of the videos of his 3-volume “Easy to Master Thread Miracles” says he doesn’t use anymore elastic IT in his Floating Bill hook-up because of the problematic shine. I’m using Wooly Nylon for very close-up IT works. That includes the Floating Rose and the Animated Bill, two tricks that subject the IT to greater strain than other thread magic, because it requires the thread to be handled more aggressively to produce the animation effect. Wooly Nylon can withstand that type of stress with the proper handling and technique and the right amount of experience. For parlor type or stage performances, I use the much stronger Jaxon Thread, particularly when performing Lite Flite using a heavier ball that has multiple, multi-colored LEDs. (The ball is locally available and cheap; its LED emits far brighter light, but that’s another post.) I was lucky enough to discover the non-elastic and very deep black Jaxon Thread a year ago. I’m very happy about that purchase. Ron Jaxon (he is a member of this Forum) sold it to me at an introductory price of $15. The unstripped thread was about 20 yards long when I received it. If I were to use it only for Le Clair or Fearson type hook-ups, that’s enough supply to last for many, many years. When separating the strands, one attribute of the Jaxon Thread immediately stands out: it’s tangle free. While most ITs have to be stretched to its full length to prevent them from getting entangled with themselves, you can leave the Jaxon Thread hanging from its anchor or hook-up points without worrying about kinks and snarls. The most outstanding characteristic of the Jaxon Thread is, of course, its strength. I used a single strand to float a signet ring, four strands to float a Floating Bulb, and about eight strands to manipulate my dancing cane (which is made of wood). As usual, when you want a stronger IT, there’s always a tradeoff in invisibility. I assume this is true with Kevlar and Kevlex, but I can’t say for sure because I’ve not tried them yet and haven’t seen samples of them. The Jaxon Thread is a bit thicker in diameter than the Wooly Nylon. I could see a single strand of Jaxon Thread from my vantage point of view when performing, whereas Wooly Nylon is invisible even to me (I normally perform Wooly Nylon by feel alone). But from the point of view of the audience, the Jaxon Thread is as invisible as Wooly Nylon given the same background and illumination and just a small adjustment in distance. I’m not sure if Ron Jaxon still has supply of the thread, but I think he tips the source in his Magic Notes which he sells on his website. Here’s the link http://www.jaxonmagic.com/magicboard/ or you can PM him. You’ll find him not only very knowledgeable about IT magic but also helpful and accommodating. Great Ben,
Thanks for the tip! I sent a message to Ron Jaxon, have gotten some good tips from him earlier, he is a skilled thread performer. Hope to get my hands on some thread soon so I can continue to practice, can't wait to get that act together. -e-

Does anyone living in the Uk know where to get 'Wolly Nylon' and 'Beeswax sheet' as a magician wax. I cannot find these two items in my local store!

Hi,
Guess you can buy those at the same kind of places l bought mine, the wolly nylon can be bought at any women clothing store, look for stockings, l found some marked as extra strong, and they worked out great after spending some time taking them apart. As for the Bees wax sheet, you can buy those at any shop selling hobby (do-it-yourself shop) the bees wax is often used for candles. When you're there, try to get something called Silly Putty in skincolor, works even better for ancor of IT. Hope you find it. -e-

Eirik, Woolly Nylon has nothing to do with nylon stockings.
It's thread that's used for.... well... I don't know. you get 1000 meters for 3-4$. When it's stripped you have 30-40 km. IT - enough for several lifetimes. It looks exactly like the thread you can buy at the magic shop for many times the price. Is's just as good, if not the same. Mine is made in Japan by the YLI corporation To keep the thread form breaking all you need is a lot of practice and then more practice. Theres no easy way around it. Thicker thread is more visible, elastic thread is shiny and kevlar are thicker and more shiny than wooly nylon. NOT good for close up. Jesper |

True Jesper, thanks for making that clear for me. Guess the stockings I bought are just called nylon then, but they do work out pretty good for thread practice.
Well, since I have been practicing routines every day for a while now, I invested in the "Miracle Thread" 20$ from Penguin. Just love to spend that paycheck! By the way Jesper, do you know Sten Pegani? Seems like a great guy, though I've never seen him perform.. -e-

Kevlar thread is the strongest thread I know of. I have never used Jaxon thread, so I don't know what that's like, but Kevlar is about as thin as W***** nylon but incredibly strong (I mean hey, it's bulletproof!).
The disadvantage though is that it's extremely shiny, so conditions to use it are picky. It's good practice thread though, and it's easy as pie to strip. |

True, Kevlar is way the strongest, but way most shiny.
The Elastic Miracle thread is my best buy for IT work.
