Just received a split coin - one of the more common ones out there, and noticed that the coin seems to have 2 default positions when together. The first position is perfect alignment. However it is very easy for the coin to get into and hold itself in an off-center position - enough to be noticeable in close up work. It can easily be changed to a perfectly centered/aligned position. However, it is *just* as easily moved off-kilter again - takes only a light touch. In either position, the coin stays at it is unless manually changed.
Is this considered unusual by SC standards? I would be interested to hear your thoughts/experiences on this.

Is this a mass produced one or custom chessman?

Mass produced.
I will add that I have a clone coin, but the magnet is weaker than I would prefer, and its halves together make up the thickness of a half dollar. I decided to get an additional SC to open up options with better magnet strength and thicker pieces - which I have with the newly received coin, but again, it is a bit sloppy on the alignment (Clone Coin has great alignment). I went to Lassen's commercial site, but the SC set was no longer listed.

Chessmann, Kennedy's Super Coin has a stronger mag. Worth it!

Yes, I have heard that the Supercoin has very healthy magnet strength. The one I just received does, as well. From what I have gathered, not as much as Supercoin, but for me the differences between these last 2 would probably mean little.
Clone Coin is great little coin. When together = half dollar thick, so very thin when separate. I have read that Supercoin is similarly thin...but NicholasD says otherwise. Assuming he is correct, sounds like it could be the very good compliment to my Clone Coin that I am looking for.

Try a roy kueppers coin! the split canadain coins are great! the magnets are strong and hold them flush and the 2 pieces are shaved down to half the width to make it the exact thickness of just one coin!

Don't forget Lassen now has all the split coins on his commercial site. He has a set too, that includes half dollar, dollar, and quarter split coins. It's under split coin arsenal on his site.

I checked (very) recently, and found nothing listed on his commercial site about the split coins. There were links to all of his other commercial sets, but not that one. I'll check again.
Edit... Just checked, and sure enough, they are now prominently listed!

Very good! What coin did you choose? The Kennedy supercoin, or Roy Kuepper's version?

I got a replacement from the dealer on the Split Coin, and it is better aligned. I also got a great price on Phlye on eBay, so that adds 3 more excellent split coins to the mix.
So, with those along with Clone Coin, if I'm not set now, I never will be!
