I am wondering weather it is possible to get a restaurant gig if I am only 12.
Over the last few weeks I have been practicing some more complex designs, nothing massive, but better than line work stuff. I also have mad hatz 1 in the mail to me. I normally do magic and balloons at birthday parties, but I would love to have a consistent weekly/fortnightly gig where I can hand out business cards and practice some better stuff. Few questions: Should I wait until I am a better/older/faster balloon twister, or is what I currently know good enough? Does Anybody have any techniques for getting a restaurant gig, I am not worried about tips or being paid much at the moment, just the consistent job When do you approach a restaurant? Any other advice? Thanks, Jake |

Jake, Each state has different Laws, However you must be 18 to work in most restaurants. Unfortunately I find it hard to believe that a restaurant would let you inside to work. With that said you may be able to get permission to work outside of the restaurant and catch customers coming and going. Because of your age this would probably be on a tips only basis. If I was you I would first check with your state laws, Think of buying yourself some insurance. Insurance is very important and is not too much money.
(Edit) Just realized you are from Australia.... This answer may still help you out but maybe someone from your country can chime in.

In australia you have to be 14 to get a job (14 and 9 months if you don't have parent permission)
I have been looking at getting insurance, but the lowest I could find was $500 a year. I know I should probably get the insurance, but I don't even make $500 a year. If any knows a cheaper insurance place, it would be greatly appreciated. I guess I would have to look into wether it is legal to work in a restaurant. |
