Hi all!
I've been lurking here quite a bit for the last few months so figured it was time to join I am in my early 40's and have just recently re-discovered my love for magic. I have loved magic all my life but have never performed in front of people save for a few tricks for friends here and there. Recently though I've found a new obsession with coin magic and have been devouring every book and DVD I can get my hands on on the subject of coins and have purchased 4 barbers, 4 walking liberties and am waiting for 2 Morgan dollars to come in the mail (I'm Canadian but I think the American coins just look so much better for coin magic than our coins). So I hope to get a decent routine together and get myself out there! I've already joined the I.B.M and plan on attending my local ring's next meeting. I'm stoked! |

For a foreigner, you speak very good English!
Howsomever, the "AVATAR" "says" Robbie_Parris, but you signed off with "stoked". Now, what's it going to be? When I entered first grade (1937 the teacher said on our first arithmetic class: "2 + 2 = 4". I thought, this is going to be easy! But, the second day, she said: "3 + 1 = 4" --and I said: "Please Miss Smith, make up your mind! What's it going to be?" She never called on me again. I was in Toronto for one of the PASSPORTS TO MAGIC conventions, 30+ years ago. We had a wonderful weekend! I'm in my early '80s, retired from full time magicianing, so I keep my hand in by annoying the rest of the customers in the Café. It's easy to annoy them. I just show them my card trick. I lay out 3 piles of cards (seven to a pile and then... Heck, I forgot what comes next. So, come on in--it's time for a "mug up"!

There is a website that reduces avatars to the correct size that was mentioned in the tech section but now I can't find it. Maybe try googling avatar size reduction
here you go http://www.reducephoto.com/step1avatar.asp

Well, "they" don't charge by the word here--like telegrams usta.
I was a talking act, and professionals get a 50% discount on words. --But, ya hafta buy in wholesale quantities. When I retired, I had a bin full of left over words. I figure it will be next Octember before I start scraping the bottom of the barrel. Spartacus! no fair punching holes in the bottom of the barrel~ If you find one of them there avatar things in a size 6, I'll take it. (I wear a size 6 hat and a size 12 shoe.) It's 35 deg. F. today, so I'm heading out to the "digs" to find some catalogs for Sparky. Yr's, 'til the curtain closes... O

Thanks Robbie_Parris,
I do worry that if I accidentally skipped welcoming someone they might feel really unpopular. Because, you know, the world revolves around me. LOL I know how you feel about the Morgans, I wish we still had them. I must say though, I love the wildlife on Canadian coins. -Mary Mowder |

Yes! the late Mel Stover (Winnipeg, Manitoba) gave me a loony many years ago. I tried it in 6 different soft drink machines--no luck. I wonder if it would work in my Misers Dream. I'm working on a more updated routine, using only one coin.
Mel had a worse sense of humor than I...On the mantel in his home in W'peg., he had a human skull. A card "said": SKULL OF CAUCASIAN MALE, Age 60 years. Adjacent was a much smaller skull. A card "said": SKULL OF SAME CAUCASIAN MALE, Age 10. Anyway, against my better judgment (on account you are flirting with my girl friend, Mary, I'll wish a welcome. sorry, it's not legendary, but it's the best I can do...........

That's the problem with Canadian money. too much *** wildlife! No, I do like our money. It can be interesting, but there's just something so..well...magical about antique American coins. They look like they belong in the hands of a magician! I've been ordering my coins on ebay, but just discovered 2 coin shops close to my work here in Toronto that sell Morgans, so I'm excited to stop in and see what have.
And by the way Mary you can just call me Rob Sorry Dick, it's time to let the young whipper snappers step up and have a shot, although I'd hate to end up as a skull on YOUR mantle (FOOLISH CANADIAN MALE - AGED 43- FLIRTED WITH MARY MOWDER) :) |

Hi Robbie_Parris... have you been to the Browser's Den of Magic?
"Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time." "The dog did nothing in the night-time." "That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes. |

Hi panlives... yes, I've been there quite a few times. Not in a few years though. I just recently got back into magic so I've just been doing my own learning and practising at home. I used to go to Morrisy Magic quite a bit as well. Might be time to drop in those places again.
