I just posted this in the trick forum but thought I'd put it here too cause I think it would work in a street show. A great magician and a man I've admired for years-Brother Paul West has just released one of his Pet Routines, The Stupid Bean Trick. It's really wonderful. I've watched him delight audiences with it for years. Here's a link, it's grand stuff!!
http://www.BrotherPaulMagic.com He used it for many seasons in his Renaissance Festival shows and it always killed! I think it would play gangbusters on the street, check it out and let me know what you think. |

Bruce Jensen and I watched Brother Paul do it at the Renaissance Fair in Bloomington,MN about 10-12 years ago. He killed with it.
As Paul will tell you, it came from the Paul Fox Beer Trick. I'm sure that Paul Fox would approve of what Brother Paul does with it!

Thanks guys... I love this trick and it was a sweet and sour decision to release it. It is the best street trick I do and I'm sure for those that are looking for an effect to add that is different and unique, packs real small and is "Street Rugged" it will be an amazing addition.
Dick and Jim... You two have been a real asset in the past. Please continue on with what you do so well, and thanks for the response to this effect. |

Just a quick note...
For those of you that have emailed me about this, you can look at information and reviews at: The Good, The Bad and the Garbage > Tricks and Effects and look for > Brother Paul's Stupid Bean Trick - fabulous street magic. You'll get an idea of what it's all about there. It works for 20 to 5,000 people. I've been performing this on the streets for the past couple of decades and honed it out and am now releasing it. It's shipping now. |

I am pleased to say I am a proud owner of The Stupid Bean Trick!
I have nothing to say other than praise about this effect. From dealing with Bro Paul and the production quality inculding the DVD that is included - it is first class. He shipped to me whilst I was in Malaysia were I first performed the routine as a closer to my show 48 hours later. I performed it about twenty times and it never failed to impress my audience. I was pleased to see the money come into my hat. Of course I will continue to perform my own closer to my show but after performing over 300 shows in 3 months it was refreshing to perform The Stupid Bean Trick. This effect is now a part of my comedy show, I will include in my next performance at Smoke & Mirrors UK! Thanks Bro Paul for your creative thinking and the The Stupid Bean Trick! Mario |

This trick is beyond a doubt the best effect I have purchased in the past 5 years. I can only say, "Thank you, Brother Paul".

I agree - thanks Brother Paul for making this available! The really stupid part of the trick, IMHO, is the simplicity versus audience reaction ratio. |

We should have a Stupid Bean Trick convention.

Mario Good to see you are getting some use out of The Stupid Bean Trick. When you showed interest, I knew it would get a work out from a well respected worker. I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves into your show in the future. Keep me posted. Best of luck and continued success. |

It looks like the rice bowls a little.

I give all the credit to Paul Fox for putting out the Paul Fox Beer Trick. I just put my routine on it and rebuilt the gimmick to work in a modern world, one piece, solid and clean. Don't get me wrong, I close my show a lot with the Rice Bowls. It's still a classic killer even though it has been marketed everywhere except cereal boxes, and maybe it has. I have a routine for the Rice Bowls in my notes on the Bonus CD called Ground Zero 2.0 from my 1998 lecture tour which makes it clean comfy and easy to clean up for the streets. But back to the subject, yes. You can change rice to water with The Stupid Bean Trick. The cool thing is that you are using a bag of rice (or beans), a bowl, a martini glass and a can. Just looks like junk from a well, street urchin. Then with those objects on your table or street, you make Magic. In my opinion, there's nothing better for an audience and street performer... Over the years, I've found it's quite a utility piece. Beans to water, grapes to wine, coffee beans to coffee, rice to a lemon (then cut it up and find a signed bill), I hate to use this phrase, but it is truly only limited to what the magician can think up. Thanks for opening up this line of conversation. I love this form for this exact reason... |

At a boy Mario...
It's a lot of fun to perform and at my age I really enjoy the break in the show where, at my age, I can shut my mouth for 4 minutes, keep the show going with a lot of applause and then get to have a drink of water before I continue on. For me, I place it in different places in my show depending on the pitch, weather and when I want to take a break in my show. I know that's a weird concept, but it works for me. Of course I close my show with a ring on rope routine too, so I'm freakin crazy out of my mind in the eyes of most street guys and gals out there. Continue enjoying it and for something packs this small and cleans up and resets on the spot I'm thankful to have it in my bag. Stay in touch. Are you coming to the US in October? |

I'm part mexican so I hate to see any waste of beans.
Quite frankly, I am very proud to be known as a "Beaner". Yes, I said it! This mexican loves beans! Here is why, beans are a great source of protein if you are tired of having to get treated for mad cow disease from eating beef as your source of daily protein. I am however willing to set sacrifice some of my precious frijoles(beans) aside for use in presenting "El Estupido Frijole" I agree about the convention idea as well. We would need to make sure that everyone brought some air freshener for the flatu..., errr flattering smells. |
