I am in need of a video camera and I'm wondering if anyone could help me out?

I'd like it to have an external mic jack. I'd also like the best picture quality possible. I'll be using the camera for shooting video from the back of a room and also for close up magic videos I'd like to have fun with.

Any suggestions you might have I'd gladly look into them and would much appreciate.

I should also say I'd like to keep the price under $400 or so... If at all possible
