I have Daryl's rope videos. Anything special about Tabary I should know about?

Long and complex... many love it, but I don't think it is commercial.

Pete, I agree with you. I just picked up the much ballyhooed Tarbary tape and I do believe it is over rated. And yes, it is too long.

I have to disagree. I do most of the Tabary rope routine and I have yet not to get an overwheming response. It is not a routine for every crowd. I do not do it in my kids shows.
I do not do the traveling knot or the jumping ends and the routine performance time is about 5 minutes. |

I used Daryl for awhile and found it to be too long as well-at least from audience perspective-although it is a great routine...I got much bigger reactions from the section of the Tabary routine. That's the secret, find rope effects that are eye popping and just limit how many you do...only choose the best. Actually I use one phase of Daryl's plus 2 or 3 phases of Tabary. Tabary is elegant. I do it in my kid's shows and it's one of the most remembered effects-due to my routining.

I agree with Pete and Snidini, and agree with Darkwing who disagrees with both of them. (I am practicing to go into politics.)
With a story line that I developed for a motivational speech, Tabary's routine went almost 20 minutes! It was a one-act presentation and I think it would be very tedious if presented as "let me show you you a rope trick". For use within a program, I have also eliminated the traveling knot, jumping ends and the cut and restore finale. It is a 3-4 minute routine that seems to play well. I am now working on going right into Prof. Cheers comedy routine after the Tabary routine. The idea is that I am "caught" with a piece of rope hanging out my sleeve at the end of Tabary. I have found that Tabary does not play well for small children. They seem more confused than awed or surprised - could be just a poor presentation though.

When discussing magic with rope, one needs to point out the routines and works by Patrick Page and Edward Victor. I think both gentlemen deserve a nod for giving us the tools and thinking that propelled us beyond the standard cut and restored rope effects of yesteryear.

Tabary has alot of innovative and unique rope magic.
Nothing says you have to use the whole thing exactly as published. If fact you should make it your own routine with your own personality built into it.

I know this seems off the cuff, (it is), and I don't mean to throw a monkey wrench into the works, (I'm Lying, I'm about to do exactly that), but have you considered Pavel? His rope magic is profuse and very commercial and visual! I think I would put him at the top of the list, and you can buy his videos at L&L Publishing. Just my two cents.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

I believe Pavel is the last word as for gimmicked ropes. I've never seen Pavel do something impressive with a regular rope. However if a third name have to be added to the list I choose Flip.

I've been doing Daryl's rope routine for 9 years and it always gets a great reaction. I suggest spicing up your rope routines by consulting the booklet "snappy rope patter" by Si Adams. The information in this booklet will even make it comical and exciting for yourself. Cheers.....
