My name is Ernst and I have been into magic and illusions since I was about 6 and first received a Harry Blackstone Jr. Magic Kit. Next was a magic set and book by Mark Wilson. I have practiced off and on since then. Many a gimmick has been purchased, even though I prefer more slight of hand and flourishes. I will occasionally perform for friends at bars, but it's more of a hobby for just me. I always find useful information in these forums. I am happy to join to not be a lurker. I hope I can offer others advice to return the favor as others' comments have done for me.

Welcome Ernst VCO,
I'm into some of the same stuff. Some Sleight-of-Hand, some Flourishes and some Stand-Up as well. I'll see you in the Close-Up fora. -Mary Mowder |

Ernst, like you I am new. Many of the members here are suggesting to get Bobo's book on coin magic. I have started reading it and I learned more routines in 1 hour than what I learned my whole life.

Well, I'm not new. I'm sort of a bedraggled old "once was" (as opposed to "has been") magician. I never had a magic set, but Harry Jr. was a friend. I know a good card trick.

I bought it to practice palming, since I still feel that my hands don't look relaxed enough. I haven't been practicing lately, I need to pick up that book again. I picked up with a Half dollar version of Scotch and Soda. I love the look on people's faces with that one. A classic gimmick, that I feel gets very surprised faces. |
