I'd heard that Potter & Potter Auctions is presenting an auction of Cardini memorabilia on April 6. They've posted the catalog on-line for download (thanks to Dustin Stinett for the heads-up!). See:
http://www.potterauctions.com/auctions/upcoming There are many fascinating items, but one particularly caught my eye: ############# begin Catalog excerpt ############# 36. Hugard, Jean. Cardini's unpublished card magic manuscript. [New York, ca. 1930). Being an 89-page typed manuscript describing card magic effects, flourishes, and sleight-of-hand techniques of Cardini's, prepared by Jean Hugard for eventual publication as part of a larger volume of Cardini's inventions. Described are various flourishes and arm spreads, hold-out techniques, a detailed four-ace routine, and more. Included is a two-page table of contents of the larger work-to-be, which lists tantalizing topics such as Cardini's Linking Ring routine, tricks with cigarettes, billiard balls, and more. Rough sketches accompany several entries, presumably by Hugard. Typed on 4to sheets, browned and tattered. 500/600 Hugard wrote many classic treatises on sleight-of-hand, which made him the ideal candidate to pen Cardini's book. Unfortunately, and for reasons unknown toddy, this manuscript, really only one chapter of the larger planned work, is the only portion of the project to have survived - and was likely the only section Hugard completed. ######################## end Catalog excerpt ############# Has anyone heard of this before? If it's previously unknown, I wonder if the buyer could get publication rights? Larry S. |

Hi Larry--I also noticed this on the Potter Auctions PDF catalog. I'm guessing that a number of the items from this unpublished/unfinished book were subsequently published in periodicals and magic texts. Cardini's multiple shift is in Card College 3. Cardini also made contributions to Hilliard's Greater Magic.

See pp. 434-7 in Cardini: The Suave Deceiver by John Fisher (Miracle Factory, 2007).
