George,
Harry Lorayne says his Ultra Move came about by playing around with one-handed double lifts. Take a look at it. It may help you. |

Tran Man, I HATE "get ready" DLs. VERY hard to prevent a "tell" even if you're good. Both Hamman and Krenzel teach a push-off that is very subtle and fairly easy to learn. My friend Aldo Colombini just came out with his new Sleights And Subtleties DVD, Volume 4, which has great teaching on the DL. (WildColombini.com, $10)
Whatever methodology you choose, practice the real way of showing a single card as you actually do it then DL. Usually showing a single card twice, DL once, etc.

Thanks for your input Fritz, I will check it out, I think a DL is one of the most useful sleights you can use.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

You then put the card of the right hand on top of the deck, keep doing some business, and then do your move. I am *not* saying "take the top card in the RH, and put it back" but "find an effect that leaves you no other choice than to take (or have already) the top card in your RH, placed back on top, and then a DL done." Without justification behind these moves, you'll end up getting a very bad habit. With a good justification, you'll do a god DL (assuming you can still handle it *properly*. P! |

Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys! Oliver and Kirk, I completely agree with you guys, that half of a good DL is the misdirection, or 'attitude'. For a double that nearly fits within that range to a T, try the snap double lift. There's really no pushover but it's a really good way of getting an aligned double from a thumb count. It's in The Classic Magic of Larry Jennings and is also taught in Daryl's Ambitious card video. (actually fiddling with a deck just now I found that you can do a simulated pushover of the card as you turn it over. It's similar to a DL that is my go to DL, just the break is aquired differently if I knew the name of the DL I use I'd give it, but I don't)

I heard from a friend that anecdotal evidence is actually quite reliable. |
