Where do I go to edit my profile?

Upper right of the Café screen contains all the links you need.

None of these linktake me to an editing area.

Bob, if all you see are the tabs you mentioned, then you are not logged in. You must first log in to the Café and then you'll see other tabs such as Edit profile and preferences. Click on the Edit profile and it is self explanatory.

I love a challenge. Try logging out and then delete all the cookies and temporary internet files in your browswer. Go back and log in to the Café again. This should solve your problem.
Thanks for the comment about my birds. I have 16 more just like those in the picture.

When you log in, does it say "You are logged in as wellington" just below those links at the top right of the page? If it doesn't, you aren't logged in. Are you using IE6? Have you checked your cookie settings in your browser to see if they are accepting the Café cookies? Please post back here after checking those. It sounds like you aren't able to log in - if you were logged in, you'd see those links.
